  12. 9.6 Solving Algebra Word Problems pg. 116 The key is to READ CAREFULLY! Use the information given to solve what the question is asking. • Example 9: Mrs. Hill bought 3 pounds of apples. The price is $2.49 per pound. How much did Mrs. Hill pay for the 3 pounds of apples? Step 1: Get the facts together:

  14. TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2013 COME IN QUIETLY AND SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT. FILL OUT YOUR AGENDA AND HAVE IT OUT FOR ME TO SIGN. COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING WARM-UP: Combining Like Terms Classwork: Review Rules and Procedures Homework: Multiplication/Division Number Puzzle/Bring Composition Book Due FRIDAY.

  15. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2013 COME IN QUIETLY AND SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT. FILL OUT YOUR AGENDA AND HAVE IT OUT FOR ME TO SIGN. COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING WARM-UP: Solving Equations Classwork: Graphing Inequalities (9.7) pg. 118-119 Homework: Multiplication/Division Number Puzzle/Bring Composition Book Due FRIDAY.

  16. Graphing Inequalities (9.7) pg. 118-119 An inequality is a sentence that contains a < , > , ≤ , or ≥ sign. Look at the following graphs of inequalities on a number line. Graphing inequality shows all the numbers that make the inequality true. X > 2 is read “x is greater than 2” since it is > and not ≥. X ≤ 3 is read “x is less then or equal to 3” since the inequality is ≤. The endpoint is filled in. The graph uses a closed circle because the number 3 is included in the graph.

  17. Graphing Inequalities (9.7) pg. 118-119 There can be more than one inequality sign. These are called compound inequalities. For example: 1 < x < 4 is read “1 is less than xandx is less than 4.” 1 4 X < 1 or x ≥ 4 is read “x is less than 1 orx is greater than or equal to 4.” 0 1 4

  18. Graphing Inequalities (9.7) pg. 119

  19. THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2013 COME IN QUIETLY AND SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT. FILL OUT YOUR AGENDA AND HAVE IT OUT FOR ME TO SIGN. 20. Solving Inequalities by Addition and Subtraction(9.8) pg. 120 Solving inequalities is similar to solving equations. Example 11: Solve and graph the solution set for x – 2 ≤ 5 Step 1: Add 2 to both sides of the inequality so the variable will be by itself. x– 2 ≤ 5 Step 2: Graph the solution set for the inequality.
