2. The flag of Italy is a tricolour featuring three equally sized vertical pales of green, white, and red, with the green at the hoist side. Its current form has been in use since 19 June 1946 and was formally adopted on 1 January 1948 The politics of Italy is conducted through a parliamentary, democratic republic with a multi-party system. Italy has been a democratic republic since June 2, 1946, when the monarchy was abolished by popular referendum.

LANGUAGES IN ITALY The official language of Italy is the Italian language, a descendant of theTuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin, but several regional languages are also spoken to varying degrees. Other non-indigenous languages are spoken by a substantial percentage of the population due to immigration. ITALIAN MONEY Italian euro coins have a design unique to each denomination, though there is a common theme of famous Italian works of art from one of Italy's renowned artists. Each coin is designed by a different designer. There are no Italian euro coins dated earlier than 2002, even though they were certainly minted earlier, as they were first distributed to the public in December 2001.

5. APENNINES The Apennines or Apennine Mountains are a mountain range consisting of parallel smaller chains extending 1,200 km (750 mi) along the length of peninsular Italy. 

6. LAKE GARDA LAKE COMO Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday destination located in northern Italy. The most famous locations near the lake are Sirmione, Limone and Desenzano, already known by the Romans as thermal baths. Lake Como is located in the Lombardy region in northern Italy. The most famous locations near the lake are Cernobbio with it’s charming villas and the picturesque Bellagio. The beauty of the Lake Como has inspired same important poets such as Manzoni and Stendhal.

7. THE MOST IMPORTANT RIVERS TIBER PO The river flows through many important Italian cities, including Turin,Piacenza and Ferrara. It is connected to Milan through a net of channels called navigli, which Leonardo da Vinci helped design. The river rises at Mount Fumaiolo in central Italy and flows in a generally southerly direction past Perugia and Rome to meet the sea at Ostia. ARNO The river originates on Mount Falterona in the Casentino area of the Apennines, and initially takes a southward curve. The river turns to the west near Arezzo passing throughFlorence, Empoli and Pisa, flowing into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Marina di Pisa.

8. GRAN PARADISO NATIONAL PARK Gran Paradiso National Park (4,061 m) is a mountain in the Alps and the main massif of the same name. The summit is totally in Valle d'Aosta although the southern section of its massive extends up in Piedmont.

9. ABRUZZO NATIONAL PARK The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise is located for the most part in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo and in Lazio and in Molise.

10. STELVIO NATIONAL PARK Stelvio National Park is a national park in the north-east ofItaly, founded in 1935. The park is the largest in Italy and covers part of two regions: Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Lombardia, in 24 municipalities. Stelvio National Park has borders with the Swiss National Park, the Parco naturale provinciale dell'Adamello-Brenta and the Parco regionale dell'Adamello. Together, these parks comprise 400,000 hectares (1,500 sq mi) of protected natural environment. The park includes an extensive territory of valleys and high mountains, ranging from 650 metres (2,130 ft) to 3,900 m (12,800 ft) in height.

11. VOLCANOES IN ITALY Stromboli Stromboli is an Italian island belonging to the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, in Sicily. The volcano is 926 m over the sea and reaches a depth of about 1700 m below the sea level. Stromboli has a persistent explosive activity and it is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

12. ROME Rome is one of the most beautiful and famous cities in the world. It's the capital of Italy and it was one of the centre of the ancient history. There are many remains of the Roman empire like the Coliseum, the Mausoleo of Adriano, the acqueduct and the imperial holes (fori imperiali). Rome is wonderful, especially when you go around or when you watch from afar the light that beam the downtown in the night. It's a city much visited but I never want to live here: it's densely populated and there is more traffic than the little town. I favourite stay in a village, where you can be quiet and you can live peaceful.

MILAN View of the city Fashion The city of Milano the second Italian city by population in the last century has stabilized its role of economic productivity, becoming the largest financial market in Italian, is also one of the world's fashion capitals of industrial design and one of the most important Italian universities . 14. NAPLES Naples is the capital of Campania. Naples is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. Bronze Age Greek settlements were established in the Naples area in the second millennium BC.

17. Rialto bridge VENICE is a city in north eastern Italy situated on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. 21. T I V O L I Villa Adriana (at Tivoli, near Rome) is an exceptional complex of classical buildings created in the 2nd century A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian. It combines the best elements of the architectural heritage of Egypt, Greece and Rome in the form of an 'ideal city'. THE VILLA D’ESTE Historical Description On 9th September 1550, Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este (1509- 72) arrived in Tivoli, having obtained the post of governor of the town. The Cardinal came from the cultured background of the Court of Ferrara and had immersed himself in humanist studies. He was therefore an erudite and cultivated art patron who was surrounded by famous artists, painters (Girolamo da Carpi, Girolamo Muziano, Federico Zuccari, Livio Agresti, etc), silversmiths and goldsmiths (Benvenuto Cellini), musicians (Palestrina), and poets (Tasso, Ariosto).

34. EDUCATION IN ITALY Education in Italy is compulsory from 6 to 16 years of age, and is divided into five stages: kindergarten, primary school, lower secondary school, upper secondary school and university. Italy has both public and private education systems.
