  1. API SC18Work Group 2 API Exploration & Production Standards Conference on Oilfield Equipment and Materials Westminster, Colorado June 23, 2009 Ed Durante Chair

  2. Joint API/ISO Work Group Charge Based on the Minutes of the E & P Standards Conference on Oilfield Equipment and Materials API Subcommittee 18 and ISO/TC 67/WG 2 Meeting San Antonio, Texas January 22nd & 23th2009

  3. API SC18 TG2 Charge SC18 to assign to TG2 the charge to review the new amended 9001:2008 and recommend a path forward within ISO and any changes to the supplemental requirements with respect to Spec Q1.

  4. ISO TC-67 Work Group Charge • It is obvious that the changes in the ISO 9001 version will have to be implemented in the ISO/TS 29001 boxed texts 1 on 1. WG 2 is responsible for the supplemental paragraphs. • Action Joint Task Group: The joint task group is therefore asked to study the changes in the new ISO 9001:2008 version and to advise TC-67 on un-inventible amendments necessary in the ISO/TS 29001 supplemental paragraphs due to the changed ISO 9001:2008 version. • WG 2 sees two main possible procedural routes. Either publication of an amendment to the current version of the ISO/TS 29001 / Q1 or publication of a revised 2009 version of the ISO/TS 29001 / Q1 by using a fast track process. • Action Joint Task Group: Depending on the need for changes in the supplementals the joint task group is asked for their advice on the way forward (amendment route or new 2009 publication route).

  5. Joint WG RecommendationBased on WG MeetingsMay 29, 2009 - Houston, Texasand June 23, 2009, Westminster Colorado It is the Joint WG recommendation to issue an Amendment of TS-29001 to align the document with ISO 9001:2008. This amendment should include administrative corrections only and no revisions to supplemental requirements at this time. This methodology is permitted by ISO and would provide the most expeditious process for publishing the amended document, rather than publishing a new edition. Once the Amended TS-29001 document is published API would adopt the amended document and would issue an addendum to API Q1 8th edition. This process would maintain API Q1 and ISO 29001 as identical documents.

  6. PublicationProcess Once the Joint WG recommendation to proceed is accepted by TC 67 and SC 18 •The project leader (Ed Durante) will prepare the draft amended document •Harold Pawlens will prepare the ISO new work item proposal ballot form for the Amendment. Ed Baniak will coordinate this on the API side. •An amendment goes through the same procedure as any ISO standards. (This could be agreed by correspondence or at the TC 67 meeting) •The Draft amendment (ISO/DAM) is then created and circulated to TC67 members for approval. As this amendment is envisaged to be rather small, and should be able to get it through the process fast. •API would then adopt back and publish the amended document •Under this process it is possible to have both documents published by year end 2009.
