  2. Expository • Most people have a favorite thing or person in their life. • Think about a favorite person, pet or favorite thing in your life. • Now, write to explain your favorite thing. Use details and examples.

  3. EXPOSITORY • Most Fourth Grade students in Florida have read a Sunshine State Reader book. • Think about your favorite Sunshine State Reader book you have read this year. • Now, write and explain why it is your favorite Sunshine State Reader book

  4. PERSUASIVE • Most Fourth Grade students participate in the Tropicana Speech Contest. • Think about writing a 3 minute speech to persuade the listeners and convince them about a topic you have strong opinions. • Now, write a speech to persuade the audience.

  5. Expository • Every student has to wake up each morning and get ready for school. • Think about what you do to get ready for school every morning. • Now write to explain what you do every morning to get ready for school.

  6. Expository • Every school has rules and those rules are important to follow. • Think about rules that you think are very important to follow. • Write and explain what the rule is and why it is important to follow using details and examples.

  7. Expository • Everyone would enjoy having an unusual pet. • Think about an unusual pet you would like to have as a pet. • Now choose an unusual pet. Write and explain why you would like to have this unusual pet.

  9. EXPOSITORY • Most people have had a school year that stands out in their minds. • As the school year ends, think about what has happened this school year. How does Fourth Grade stand out in your mind as challenging and special? • Now, write to explain to a new Fourth Grade student the reasons why Fourth Grade stands out in your mind as a challenging and special year.

  10. NARRATIVE • Every student has a had a substitute teacher in their school years. • Think about a surprising day when a substitute walked into the door of the classroom. • Now write a story about the surprising day when a substitute walked into the classroom.

  11. EXPOSITORY • Our Fourth Grade took a field trip to the outdoor Science Lab at the Biophilia in Freeport. • Think about your 4 days at the BiophiliaCenter. Think about the many activities you experienced. • Now, write toexplain your best Biophilia Center ‘s experiences or activities and what you learned.

Before: explain on one side of the paper how you were at the beginning of the year. After: Explain on the other side of the paper how you were at the end of the year. Use details and examples.

EXPOSITORY • Most everyone learns about history by talking with parents or grandparents. • Think about the history of the United States of America. • Interview a parent or grandparent about an important date or time in America’s History. (for example, WWII) • Write and explain the facts you learned in the interview with your parents or grandparents. (Use your interview notes)

  26. EXPOSITORY • Most people care about saving the earth and keeping it green. • Think about Earth Day. Think about ways to save the grass on the school grounds. • Now, write to explain why it is important to save the grass. Give ways it can be saved.

LETTER WRITING: ABOUT THE STATE OF FLORIDA • Research facts about Florida to share with a student in California. “Race Around the States” Project. • Compose a letter to send to student to explain about the State of Florida (cities, resources, economy, attractions, weather, land, waters, schools, etc) • Compile all class letters to send to student in California.

PERSUASIVE • Most students enjoy learning Science from high school Science students. • Think about persuading the teacher to contact Arnold High School students to come to BPA to teach us with Science experiments. • Now, write and persuade the teacher to invite the Arnold Science students to teach the class.

  29. Narrative • If you could spend a whole day with a famous person, who would it be? • Write a story about the day you spent with a famous person. Use details and examples in your story.

  30. Narrative • Think about a time when you had a great adventure. It could have happened while on a school field trip, going to a relative’s home, going on vacation, going to the movies, going to the library, or something totally different. • Write a story about this great adventure. Where did you go? What did you do? Who was with you? Give enough details to show the reader what happened and why the adventure was so great.

Persuasive • Homework is part of school and sometimes students have homework on the weekend as well as during the week. • Before you begin writing, think about the effects of having homework on the weekend. • Now write to convince teachers whether students should have homework on the weekend.
