Course Information • FS101- Fire Behavior and Combustion • Weekly Seminar: Thursday Nights, 10PM Eastern Time (9 Central) • Discussion Boards: MINIMUM of 2 posts • 1 Original response to the questions • At least 1 response to another student This is the absolute minimum. This is where the course learning really takes place, the interaction on the boards and group discussion. Keep on Posting!

  4. Course Expectations Yes, the fun part- Expectations First, please read the syllabus and ask any questions you may have! It is posted it on the home page Read all course announcements on the home page Attend the weekly seminar. If not, you can make it up. Notify me in advance if you cannot make it.

Course Expectations, Cont. • Discussion Boards: • Again, need at least 1 original and one response • Do not wait until the last day to post, this limits amount of discussion that is possible • Assignments • Turn them in on time! • If you have an issue with formatting or writing, take a look at the Writing Workshop • Contact • Stay in contact with me about any issues that come up that may impact your coursework • Notifications • The sooner the better! I am very willing to work with you, but I need to know if there is a problem in order to do so!

  6. Spelling! • PLEASE USE SPELL CHECK!!! • Discussion Boards • Written Assignments • E-Mails We all make mistakes, and we all will, but when you are submitting work for a grade, please use spell check!

SEMINARS Seminars are on Thursday Nights at 10:00PM Eastern Time, we will start on time I try to keep the actual lecture portion to about 45 to 50 minutes You have to be an active participant for full credit, and 25 points is a good chunk of the grade each week There is an audio delay of about 3 seconds, so the pauses in between are me waiting for you to get the audio and ask questions before we move on to the next topic Now, onto the material for week 1

As such, I will provide you with a lot of reference material that will prove useful not only for this class, but future classes as well. I will upload these PowerPoints to the Doc Sharing tab for your use after seminars

What else can we do? • Increased Training Standards? • Academy Level • In- Service Training • Real life scenario and classroom • Continued Improvements in Equipment? • Not only fire prevention, but fire suppression • Longer lasting and able to function in diverse environments • Communication equipment (9-11 failure) • Industry Standards? • NFPA Fire Codes. Traditionally, the fire service is one of the best at this! • Lastly, PHYSICAL FITNESS
