  3. Konica’s Environmental Status • Title V Air Permit (Mostly VOCs) • Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator • Wastewater discharge to local POTW • Stormwater Permit • Silver Recovery (Wastewater Pretreatment) • Involved with TSCA, FIFRA, ATF, EPCRA (Tier II & TRI).

  6. Employee Involvement • Formal Identification Environmental Aspects and Impacts. • Konica Environmental Group (KEG) and DPPEA worked together to investigate activities throughout the organization. TAP THE K.E.G.

  7. Employee Involvement • Identification of Training Needs & Employee Training • DPPEA and Environmental Engineer performed initial training of all employees. (Phase I) • All new hires are scheduled for this training • Phase II training to emphasize job specific environmental concern areas is performed by department trainers.

  8. Environmental Training • The competency of employees whose work may create a significant impact on the environment is reviewed annually during the employee’s performance review

  9. Employee Involvement • Environmental Programs • Any team or process section that is effected by a proposed change or implementation of a program has an opportunity to “buy in” or reject the implementation.

  10. Employee Involvement • Communication and Dialog • Discrepancy Report system used as part of ISO9000 system allows communication of suggestions, and criticism throughout the organization. • Daily morning meeting by each process allows information to flow quickly.

  11. Management Review • Top Management periodically reviews the Environmental Management System for; • Continuing Suitability • Adequacy • Effectiveness • Change policy, objectives and other elements as needed !! ÄContinual ImprovementÃ

  12. In Closing… • Actively seek out employee suggestions • Include your environmental needs in their procedures or create procedures !! • Provide a means of Communication. Face to Face dialog is best. • Listen to their requests and ACT on them!! • Create accountability and recognition.
