  2. Aviation Organized, Unified via CAAFI CAAFI Team at CO biofuels flight test January, 2009, Houston, Texas “ the aviation industry is eager for an entirely new fuel dynamicand will be an enthusiastic purchaser “ ……..Letter dated 1/16/09 to President Elect Obama

  3. Eliminate Environmental Based Growth Constraints for Aviation is Key Driver

  4. CAAFI*, What it is, How it Works * The Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative launched 2006

  5. Aviation Leaders in Sustainable Biofuel? 68% of Biofuel makers see aviation first (3/12) Aviation Buyers 9 of Biofuels Digest top 100 (1/15) Visual - The Economist - October 28, 2010

  6. “Farm to Fly” Sets U.S. National Goal …….to enable commercially viable, sustainable bio-Jet Fuel supply chains in the U.S. signed April 2013 • Government Departments • Agriculture • Energy • Transportation • CAAFI Private Sector Sponsors

  7. U.S. Sustainable Fuel Headlines REG (nee Dynamic Fuels) Louisiana global reach Hawaii Bio / Alaska Airlines Red Rock / Southwest / Fedex Fulcrum / United / Cathay Pacific REG - Neste – Solazyme / UPS DPA Title III (Navy – Ore. / Nev.) Altair / United (California)

  8. U.S. Sustainable Biofuels Opportunity Includes F2F2 State initiatives, DOE Biorefineries, DPA Phase II awards*, Commercial Operations * Defense Production Act , Title 2, 2014 Awards

  9. Product Suite Enables Economic Viability Diesel / Coproducts create value • Diesel for Trucks / Buses • Phosphorus / Nitrogen Fertilizer • Feed for Cattle • High Value products (perfumes) • Lubricants • Green Deicing Fluid at Airports Product Mix Tailored to Local Needs

  10. “Farm to Fly” State Focused / Diverse CT/NY Metro - MSW to Liquid Vermont - Dairy Waste Grown Algae South Carolina - Woody Biomass / Open Pond Algae Florida - Energy Beets / Sorghum Maryland / Delaware / Virginia – Poultry Waste / Renderings * East Coast State examples

  11. F2F2 State Project - Vermont • Benchmarking – high sugar dairy waste feeds heterotrophic algae • Feedstock Roots – Dairy led Vermont Farm bureau • Project Lead – Home Heating oil users / and farm bureau • “Non-fuel” goals - reduce manure runoff into lake • - enhance farm product mix • Customers – NBB, military, Air Canada • Processor engagement – GSR systems

  12. Vermont F2F2 Outcomes • For 300 Cow farm, 30K gallons of fuel, 100K lbs of granular phosphorus nitrogen • Up to 33% reduction in runoff to lake • Positive EROI, Yields can meet Solazyme benchmark • Partnership with utility (GMP) processor GTI/IH2 • Stong NGO engagement (NWF, CLF Vermont) • National Opportunity partnering with Dairy Industry (via Newtrient/ DMI Innovation)

  13. F2F2 State Project – CT / NY Metro • Benchmarking – in place MSW/L options • Feedstock Roots – NE corridor “Saudi Arabia” of Garbage in U.S. • Project Lead – Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology • “Non-fuel” goals - repurpose failed MSW to electricity facility • - Jobs via non-stop air service to Europe • Customers - Airlines and National Biodiesel Board NBB • Processor engagement – Solena, Fiberight, Enerkem, AltNRG, TRI (Fulcrum subctr)

  14. CT/NY Metro F2F2 Outcomes • State RFP for Hartford, CT. Facility Repurposing by yearend 2015 • Potential RFP response from 5 processors • 6 X revenue annual revenue growth ($25 M to $150M) for liquids conversion. • Double digit IRR for “brown field conversion estimated • Supply to NY Metro / CT options

  15. F2F2 State Project – South Carolina • Benchmarking – USDA report established woody biomass and phototrophic algae potential • Feedstock Roots – Biomass Council was entry point to South Carolina • Project Lead – South Carolina Clean Energy Business Alliance (SCCEBA) • “Non-fuel” goals - Jobs in I-95 corridor • - Avoid Military base closings. • Customers – Navy, Air Force, Boeing (787 facility) • Processors – Red Rock, Sapphire, Algenol

  16. South Carolina F2F2 Progress • Engagement with in Clarendon (woody biomass) , Colleton counties (algae) • Expanded interest from Northwest Alliance, Lanzatech • Candidate for Red Rock #2 Plant, 2X Oregon facility in size. • Sister State of Queensland Australia • Navy and CAAFI Coupled in Advocacy

  17. F2F2 State Project - Florida • Benchmarking – 60 % loss of citrus processors due to infestation • Feedstock Roots – 500,000 acres fallow citrus fields mid-east coast • Project Lead – Treasure Coast R&D Authority TCERDA • “Non-fuel” goals - save agriculture jobs in Florida • - utilize estuary sludge as fertilizer • Customers – Military, European S. America Airlines • Processor engagement – Amyris, Gevo

  18. Florida F2F2 Progress • Certification Sugar Crops Using State Resources in Place • Feasibility Grant with Amyris / Gevo expected by 3rd quarter • Bring Tubers to feedstock readiness goal for Research • Targeting of Effluent to fertilizer set with USDA Conservation branch $ 1 Million State Investment leveraged

  19. F2F2 State Project – VA/MD/DE • Benchmarking – Chesapeake Bay Runoff • Remediation efforts to date • Feedstock Roots – Poultry Waste in 6 State Region • Project Lead – Commonwealth Center • Advanced Logistics Systems (CCALS) • “Non-fuel” goals - address regional environmental challenge • - Job retention / creation in poultry industry • Customers - Airlines / Military in Service Radius • Processor engagement – Fiberight, poultry • waste supply chain. Algae “skull” in Chesapeake Bay

  20. VA / MD/ DE F2F2 Status • UVA Study Report Dulles supply options triggered engagement in 2014 • Private Public CCALS engaged • RBDG Proposal to MD/DE 15’ • CCALS VA state (CRCF) grant captured with CAAFI support 15’ • Expanding to Six state coalition via FAA Ascent COE • CAAFI Regional initiative • Seeking USDA Farm Bill 6025 FY16’

  21. F2F2 State Project Success Formula Formulamula • Start with “Benchmarking” with USDA State Director and Staff • Set Roots in “bottoms-up” Farmer / Feedstock producer engagement “ownership” from the outset • Obtain strong committed, unbiased, well connected project lead locality • Ensure a second “non-fuel” goal (e.g. environment) • Create network for feedstocks / processors / customers • Launched via USDA Grants demonstrating supply chain feasibility (“match.com” for biofuels)

  22. Sustainable Biofuels Success Build Locally Link Nationally
