Estonian Security Survey 2008-2009 • Main survey, 4181 responents (M 1891, F 2290); • Purpose was to collect data about the actual extent of crime in the country, sense of security of the Estonian population; • Intimate partner abuse module, 3788 responents (only with intimate partnership experience, M 1674, F 2114); • Purpose was to collect data on intimate partner abuses in Estonia? Results • 33% have experienced physical and 4% sexual violence since age 15; • 10% have experienced IPV, 5% physical and/or sexual violence, during last 12 months; • Women usually have more severe emotional and physical consequences; • Higher among non-Estonians; • Dependence on education level is insignificant. Conclusions • Questionnaire needs more exact questions to clarify weather the respondent is victim or perpetrator; • Need for questions on partner’s gender; • Low response rate for some questions do not allow to analyse data on national level; • Better harmonisation will be helpful for international comparisons (need for exactly described indicators).
