  1. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN MALAYSIA

  2. House Of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) • 222 elected members. General election held once in five years. Party that get most votes can form a government to lead the country. • Bill originates in the dewan rakyat. Any problem will be debate in dewan rakyat. Then, bill has to be approved before being presented to Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. • House Committee consist the president/speaker (Yang Di-Pertuan) and six members. • Commitee advises Tuan Yang Di-Pertuanall matters related to all the conveniences, services and priviliges of the council • Each minutes of meeting of the House Committee will be sent to all members of the Council. • The committee has a power to assemble or conduct meetings as a Joint Committee with Dewan Negara Council.

The Speaker Of The House Of Representatives • Speaker may be a member of the House or non-member who is qualified for election into the house. • Functions of the Speaker : 1) to be responsible for maintaining order in the house 2) to ensure that relevancy is observed during debates 3) to interpret the Standing Orders in case of disputes . 4) to certify money bills before such bills are transmitted to the Dewan Rakyat . 5) the Speaker must resign his office by writing to the Secretary of the House.

  4. 6) When the Speaker is not present , the Deputy Speaker presides at the sittings. 7) A member of the State Legislative Assembly if he w ants to assume the post of Speaker of the House. 8) The present speaker of the Dewan Rakyat is Yang Amat Berbahagia Yb Tan Sri Datuk Seri Pandikar Amin Bin Haji Mulia (28 April 2008 Until now).
