CISV Strategic Planning History • Initiated Oct 2003 • Involvement from International, National and Local levels • Purpose • Define specific priorities for CISV • Phase 1 (Dec 2003 to May 2004) • Conduct interviews with CISVers from all backgrounds (youth participants, leaders, parents, administrators) • AIM 2004 (Aug) • Participatory process to come up with priorities for CISV International at AIM • For NAs not at AIM, input was still included • From a list of more than 30 priorities, 5 were selected

The initial 5 CISV International Strategic Plan Goals (2004) • Priority 1: • Leadership is the Key to Success • Priority 2: • Increasing Quality through Co-operation with Other Organizations • Priority 3: • How to find a fair way to Financially Support the Organization in Every Continent • Priority 4: • How to Consolidate (Strengthen) Existing Chapters • Priority 5: • How to Avoid Excluding People, Groups, NAs and Nations from CISV

Revised CISV International Strategic Planning Goals (2005) • AIM 2005 • Agreement to focus on 3 priorities • Priority 1: Leadership • Leadership is the Key to Success • Priority 3: Financial Stability • How to find a fair way to Financially Support the Organization in Every Continent • Priority 5: Inclusion • How to Avoid Excluding People, Groups, NAs and Nations from CISV

Revised Strategic PlanCISV Canada Focus (2005) • Priority 1: Leadership • Goal: For all chapters to increase active participation of membership by 30% and strengthen the adult and JB board through initiatives and a succession plan by 2006. • Why: Having an active membership for many years will ensure strong chapters. • Priority 3: Financial Sustainability • Goal: To achieve national financial sustainability by 2009 and support one international development project. • Why: Canada can be in a position to support other NAs. • Priority 5: Inclusion • Goal: By 2009, expand participation by 10% of a wider range of families/individuals with an interest in CISV values by increasing and expanding low cost activities. • Why: Expanded participation will allow inclusion of a wider range of members.

(2009) • Priority 1: Leadership • Goal: For all chapters to increase active participation of membership by 30% and strengthen the adult and JB board through initiatives and a succession plan by 2006. • Current State (as of SBM 2009): • CISV Canada Membership statistics • 2004-05: 526 • 2005-06: 584 • 2008-09: 737 • Growth of 26% from 2006, 40% from 2005 • National succession planning since 2006 has been good – no vacancies in board positions or committees • Rating: GREEN • 75% Success Rate

(2009) • Priority 3: Financial Sustainability • Goal: To achieve national financial sustainability by 2009 and support one international development project. • Current State (as of SBM 2009): • Million Dollar Taskforce was started in 2005 • National Endowment Fund has been created • Current deposits at $34,000 • No international development projects begun • Rating: YELLOW • 25% Success Rate

(2009) • Priority 5: Inclusion • Goal: By 2009, expand participation by 10% of a wider range of families/individuals with an interest in CISV values by increasing and expanding low cost activities. • Current State (as of SBM 2009): • No statistics available to compare • No measures of inclusion of new families or individuals from a wide range • Rating: RED • 0% Success Rate

Looking Forward – Strategic Plan • Current cycle to finish in 2009 • New Strategic Plan for approval at AIM 2009 • Period – January 2010 to 2012 • Limit to 3 priorities to provide more focus • Some Ideas for Priorities • Evaluation of education and training • Organizational/Chapter Development • Raising Profile of CISV • Proposed Plan • IEC will recommend the priorities to the board at AIM09 • If board approves, develop more detailed plan after • Update on progress in IEC MWM minutes

Next Steps • Prepare for new Strategic Planning cycle • Please be aware when planning your chapter goals this coming year • Review new Strategic Plan from AIM 2009 • Will be distributed Sept 2009 • Brainstorm specific goals from your chapter towards new Strategic Plan at NBM 2009 • Come prepared to NBM
