The district's students have consistently met or exceeded growth expectations in the state's "ABCs" accountability program. In addition, the district's 2011 SAT average of 1025 exceeded the national average by 14 points and the state average by 24 points. Moore County, North Carolina, is economically diverse and noted for its high quality of life. Although agriculture has always played an important part in the county's economics, today's major industries include tourism, health care and education. Pinehurst, home of the 2014, 2005 and 1999 U.S. Open Golf Championships, is world renowned for golf and recreation. Sandhills Community College, the first community college in the state, is recognized as one of the premier community colleges in the nation.

  6. Station 2More About Us • Description

  7. Station 3NFL: A Greater Issue • win football games. As long as winning at any cost remains the overwhelming priority, the game will continue its downward slide. Women will continue to turn away. More and more families will forbid sons to play football. The NFL will become eventually a base amusement for society’s lowest rung. Commissioner Roger Goodell should remember that the sport of boxing once held mass appeal. • For the NFL to sustain its popularity, team owners and the players association need to create a blue-ribbon commission to establish a fair, consistent and transparent set of behavior standards. It should be clear to everyone what actions the league will take when a player is charged, when he’s indicted and when he’s convicted. • Standards should be augmented by rigorous education on what it means to be a public figure and a solid citizen. Salary structures and player evaluations should include components that reward good character. • Star Tribune, Minneapolis, Minnesota

  11. Station 5IpadsvsChromebooks • For an entire school year Hillsborough, New Jersey, educators undertook an experiment, asking: Is the iPad really the best device for interactive learning, or do we return to the laptop? When the two were compared based on student learning outcomes, the results might surprise you. • While nobody hated the iPad, by any means, the iPad was edged out by some key feedback, said Joel Handler, Hillsborough’s director of technology. Students saw the iPad as a “fun” gaming environment, while the Chromebook was perceived as a place to “get to work.” And as much as students liked to annotate and read on the iPad, the Chromebook’s keyboard was a greater perk — especially since the new Common Core online testing will require a keyboard. • Another important finding came from the technology support department: It was far easier to manage almost 200 Chromebooks than the same number of iPads. Since all the Chromebook files live in an online “cloud,” students could be up and running in seconds on a new device if their machine broke. And apps could be pushed to all of the devices with just a few mouse clicks. • Hillsborough educators also tend to emphasize collaboration, and they found that Google’s Apps for Education suite—which works on either device—was easier to use collaboratively on Chromebooks. • “Our goal was [to find out] not really which device was better, per se, but which device met the learning goals,” Handler said.

  13. Station 6Carolina Panthers • The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team was founded in 1993, when, along with the Jacksonville Jaguars, they were accepted into the league as an expansion team. The Panthers are owned Jerry Richardson, the team's founder and a former NFL player. • The Carolina Panthers began play in 1995, and spent their first seven seasons in the NFC West division. In 2002, the Panthers were moved to the NFC South after the NFL realigned their divisions in 2002. Over their 20 seasons in the NFL, the Panthers have played in over 300 games, winning five division titles (one in the NFC West and four in the NFC South) and reaching the playoffs six times. The Panthers have never had back-to-back winning seasons, but recorded their first back-to-back playoff seasons in 2013 and 2014, becoming the first team in the history of the NFC South to win consecutive division titles in the process.[1]
