  2. BIRTH Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. His real name is William Henry Gates III. Bill was skinny with blond hair combed backward. He has two sisters. Bill was the youngest, shortest, but smartest kid in his class.

  3. Grade School • Bill went to school early. Since his birthday was October 28th he barely made the cut for the higher grade. The result of this is that he was the most awkward kid in the class. He liked to go to science fairs. He went to his first science fair in 1962.

  4. In sixth grade, he started getting bad grades. As he got older, he started showing behavior problems. He also started being messy. In seventh grade, he was transferred to a private school, Lakeside. Lakeside was an all boys school. At Lakeside, he was usually a straight B student. By the end of seventh grade, he loved computers. At Lakeside, they decided they needed computers. Computers were very expensive so they got teletype machines instead. The first computer game Bill Gates ever designed was a tic - tac- toe game.   5. Friendship • Gates and his friends liked playing around on computers. Bill’s best friend was a ninth grader. His name was Paul Allen. Paul was the person to ask if you had computer problems. Their friendship was the start to something big.

  6. Knowledge Is Power Bill Gates was interested in what computers could do. He was also interested how they could make money. So, in eighth grade, he started his first business. It was called the Lakeside Programmers Group. They didn’t make any money from their first job. It was unsuccessful.

  7. New Hobbies • In ninth and half of tenth grade, Bill forgot about computers. Later, Bill and Paul were hired in Oregon. They were supposed to write a payroll program for ISI. That summer, Gates wondered what kind of computer program he could design. After Gates had graduated, he discovered a chip called the microprocessor.

  8. A Success And A Loss Gates and Allen made another company called Traff-O-Data. This company organized how long the traffic lights would be the same color. A few towns purchased this. Gate and Allen made 20,000 dollars off of Traff-O Data. Even though Gates didn’t work with his friend , Evans, on this project he still worked with him a lot. On May 28, Evans died by falling 800 feet off a mountain.

  9. Career Thoughts • Gates spent his summers in Washington, D.C.. Bill was recommended to serve as a congressional page. On July 17 to August 18, 1972, Gates was selected to serve. At this time, Gates was not sure what he wanted to be. In the fall of 1972, Gates entered his final year of school and immediately started playing with computers.

  10. TWR • Gates and Allen were hired to get computers for Lakeside and so they did. They got paid $4,200 for this job. They were also hired by TWR to get bugs out of their computers. They were paid $165 a week for this. People in college didn’t even make that much money.

  11. Graduation • Gates and Allen moved to Washington. • They took the job for TWR. • After graduation, Gates earned money to buy a speed boat. • He spent a lot of time water skiing.

  12. College • In 1973, Gates went to college in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He intended on going to law school because he studied law most. He really didn’t know though if he wanted to be a lawyer like his father. Since he loved computers he thought that he might have a job involving computers. Gates spent many nights at the university’s computer lab.

  13. Microsoft Gates made Microsoft, a computer program. Soon Gates had a whole company. Gates dropped out of college in 1977. In 1980, Gates moved the company to Seattle. In 1983, Microsoft made Microsoft Word and Gates bought his first house. In 1984, he met a woman called Melinda.

  14. I’m Rich ! • Gates was now a millionaire. By 1990, Bill Gates was the richest man in the world . Gates married Melinda on New Year’s Day, 1994, on a Hawaiian island. On April 26, 1996, Melinda Gates gave birth to a baby girl.After that, Bill donated $400,000,000 to charity.

  15. Retiring • On May 23,1999, Melinda gave birth to a baby boy. In 2002, Melinda gave birth to a baby girl and Bill made the X-Box. In 2007, Bill made the X-Box 360. After he retired, he had saved $44,000,000,000. Bill and Melinda are still alive today, wealthy and healthy.
