  2. Bramante’s Life • Birth: 1444 Monte Asdrualdo (now Fermignano, Italy) • Life • Born into a farmer’s family • Apprentice of Mantegna and Piero della Francesca • Began career in Milan in 1482 • Moved to Rome in 1499 • Employed under Pope Julius II • Death: April 11, 1514-age 70 in Rome

St. Peter's Basilica • Located in Vatican City • Pope Julius commissioned the reconstruction of St. Peter’s Basilica. • Inspired by the Pantheon • When Julius died Bramante was replaced as the head designer. • His original designs greatly influenced the future designer. • Started in 1506 and finished in 1626.

  4. Impact • Made Architecture popular • Introduced the High Renaissance style in architecture. • One of first examples of Trompe l’ Oel
