  1. Musings on a Sunday Afternoon By Benedict T. Palen, Jr Sunday afternoons, especially in the winter, when it is often too cold for most outdoors activities, have often been a time for me to think about the week ahead, but also to have some quiet time to reflect on my life, and those people and events that have been such important parts of it.

  2. Musings on a Sunday Afternoon By Benedict T. Palen, Jr I typically spend that quiet time in my study, surrounded by walls full of family photos that take me back some 40 plus years. I see my mother holding my son when he was just an infant, and I see the photo of the Kansas wheat fields that surrounded the home where I grew up. It was those wheat fields, and that home, that built me. I see the photos of my wedding day, a day that I will forever cherish. It was the start of a journey that has endured 35 years, and that has grown stronger even with the seemingly inevitable twists and turns that are called life.

  3. Musings on a Sunday Afternoon By Benedict T. Palen, Jr I see a photo of my mother, holding a photo of my father, just days after he had died, and I see photos of myself and my parents, taken during one of the times when we were back home for a visit. I see two shelves in my study that are full of books, some of which date back to my college days, but all of which hold meaning to me. They range from the classics such as Hemingway to the numerous volumes with photos of the people and landscapes of Kansas.
