Environmental and Medical • B) Agree: Global Warming is a big problem • Because crops will fail and famine will become widespread • Because sea levels will rise and flood cities • More earth will become desert and not be able to support life • Disgaree: • Global Warming is not a big problem • Global warming is part of the normal weather cycles • Scientists will be able to discover ways to deal with any problems • It will make the UK able to grow lots of different foods • Other approaches are possible if valid

Environmental and Medical • C Explain why some Christians agree with fertility treatments and some do not (8marks) • Why some Christians agree: • It is good to use technology to support couples with the joy of children • They agree with IVF because they don’t believe life begins at conception • They agree with AIH because egg and sperm are from the mother and father • Why some Christians don’t agree: • They involve fertilisation outside of natural sex and God intended sex as his form of procreation • IVF involves some embryos being discarded, this is the same as abortion • AIH involves producing sperm in ways not allowed by the Catholic Church • Other approaches are valid

It is the soul that is immortal the body is not needed in Heaven. • Those who believe in resurrection believe God will not need organs to raise the body • Leaving organs fulfils the Golden Rule, and is a way of loving your neighbour • Disagree: • It interferes with the sanctity of life • It is playing God which is sinful • It encourages the sale of organs from LEDC’s to the West

Environmental and Medical • B) Do you think it is right to recycle? 4 marks • Yes • Greenhouse gases and CO2 are reduced • Without recycling some resources will disappear for ever • We use fewer non renewable resources when we recycle • No • Some recycling methods cause more pollution than normal production methods • Recycling costs people jobs because new things are not made • It is a waste of tie because not everyone will do it • Other approaches are possible

Environmental and Medical • C) Choose one religion other than Christianity and explain why some of its followers agree with transplant surgery and some do not(8marks) • Some Muslims agree with transplant surgery because: • Islam aims to do good and help people • Some Muslim Lawyers have said it is allowed • The Muslim Law Council of the UK says Muslims can carry donor cards and have transplants • Some Muslims don’t agree with transplant surgery because • Shariah Law says nothing should be removed from the body after death • Transplant Surgery is playing God which is a sin • Only Allah has the right to give or take life

Environmental and Medical • D) Religion is the best way to protect the environment. 6 marks • Agree: • Christians have a responsibility for stewardship and leaving the world in a better place than when they found it • Jesus taught that Christians have a responsibility to make sure the earths resources are shared fairly • Christians believe that they will be judged by God on how well they have fulfilled their duty as stewards of God’s earth • Disagree: • Many people think the job is so big only Governments can tackle it • The largest environmental agencies are non religious e.g Greenpeace • The UN feels that without a unified approach between governments and scientists global warming will end in disaster. • Other approaches are valid
