    1. 2011-2012 Dekaney High School Cheerleaders Interest Meeting March 29, 2011 6:00 p.m.

    2. The purpose of the Dekaney High School Cheerleaders The purpose of the organization shall be to: Promote and support good sportsmanship, school spirit and school loyalty. Learn and develop leadership qualities, as well as to learn and practice those skills necessary for working cooperatively as a member of a squad. Assist in achieving goals of interscholastic activities.

    3. Characteristics of a Dekaney High School Cheerleader Maintain a high level of physical fitness Demonstrate academic mastery Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude regarding classroom and non-classroom activities Consistently demonstrate a high level of cheerleader skills Each cheerleader must make a commitment to the school, student body, and squad to be a positive school representative. He or she must also realize that people will be watching him or her more than any other student in the school; therefore, he or she must NOT act in any way that would cause embarrassment to the school.

    5. Typical Practice Schedule Cheerleading is year round. We begin in May and end in May. During football season practices are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 5:30. During basketball season practices are Monday and Wednesday until 5:30 Depending on performances and competitions, we will have additional practices. Having a flexible schedule is important.

    6. �What squad can I make??� Varsity- shall be represented by up to 16 students of senior, junior, or sophomore standing Junior Varsity- shall be represented by up to 10 students of junior or sophomore standing. Freshman- shall be represented by up to 10 students of freshman standing.

    7. NCA Summer Camp Every cheerleader is REQUIRED to attend NCA Summer Camp. The camp dates are June 12-15, 2011. It will be held at Sam Houston State University

    8. Camp Accomplishments Champion Chant Winners Herkie Award Winners All American Mascot Superior ribbons in all evaluations All American nominees and 6 winners Technical Awards Bids to attend National Competition

    9. Cheer Technique Each member of the 2011-2012 squad will be required to attend Basel�s Gymnastics through May, June, and July $45 per month � 1 hour session per week $10 registration fee $30 tumbling refundable deposit Beginner and Intermediate classes with only DHS Cheerleaders Classes will be in the evenings, Days TBD

    10. Eligibility for Try-Outs You must be passing for the 4th 6 weeks. You must not have committed an A,B, or C discipline offense. You must not have served EC for more than 2 times for the 2010-2011 school year. Your principal must sign your discipline referral record. If current member has an outstanding cheer balance or hold, they cannot try out. If a cheerleader quit during the 2010-2011 school year, they cannot try out.

    11. Tryout Scores Tryouts consist of the following scores Cheerleader Academic/Discipline Score Possible 100 points 3 High School Skills Evaluation Scores Average of the 3 judges scores Tryout Clinic Evaluation Form Possible 50 points

Cheerleader Academic/Discipline Score Sheet Every potential cheerleader starts with 100 points Grades -2 for each C (-1 for AP) -4 for each F (-2 for AP) Conduct -2 for each N -3 for each U Referrals -1 for each referral -3 for each 3 Hour detention -3 for each EC Assignment -5 for Suspension -2 for each probation during previous years cheerleading squad -5 points for resignation from previous year�s cheerleading squad -10 points for disciplinary removal from previous year�s cheerleading squad.

    13. New Candidate Tryout Clinic Evaluation Form The candidate is present, on time, and does not leave early. The candidate follows directions. The candidate is respectful to peers and coaches. The candidate participates fully. The candidate shows perseverance/improvement. The candidate accepts constructive criticism. The candidate has a positive attitude. The candidate is dressed appropriately for practice. The candidate gives an overall good impression for the week. 5- ALWAYS, 4- OFTEN, 3- OCCASIONALLY, 2- SELDOM, 1-NEVER

    14. Previous Cheerleader Coach Evaluation Form The candidate is present, on time, and does not leave early. The candidate follows directions when they are given by captains and coaches. The candidate is attentive and remains focused on the task at hand. The candidate is respectful to peers, captains, and coaches. The candidate participates fully during class, practice, games, and performance. The candidate shows perseverance, improvement, and ambition to be better as an individual and as a squad. The candidate accepts constructive criticism. The candidate has a positive attitude and is a motivating force in team morale. The candidate is a perfect role model of leadership in the school and community. The candidate demonstrated commitment, dedication, loyalty, and pride in the cheer program.

    15. Try-Out Procedure Potential cheerleader MUST attend EVERYDAY of clinic. Monday-Wednesday Learn try-out routine, jump sequence, and cheer WEDNESDAY- Mock Try-outs Thursday Try-outs

    16. Try-Out Attire On the day of try-outs potential cheerleaders MUST wear the following: White t-shirt (no racer backs or tank tops) Black shorts ( no basketball shorts) Blue bow White socks Tennis shoes (color does not matter)

    17. Try-Out Clinic Attire For the week of try-out clinics, potential cheerleaders need to wear work-out clothes and tennis shoes. NO jeans will be allowed. Please make sure that workout attire is school appropriate. For example: No midriffs or sports bras No tights

    18. DHS Cheer Vendor Night Tuesday, April 19th at 6:30 p.m. The first payment for camp is due tonight! Parents must attend!

    19. Financial Obligations Returning Varsity and Junior Varisty members will be responsible for the following items: Camp Camp Wear Tennis Shoes Rain Jacket Game Day Shirt Poms Socks Performance Bow Total

    20. Financial Obligation New members will be responsible for: Uniform (shell, skirt, and arms) Camp Camp wear Shoes Bow Poms Bag Rain coat Game day shirt Jacket (pants are optional) Black arms for DHS Uniform Solid/Sparkle bloomers Performance Bow
