  3. Types of Participants • Voluntary • Court Ordered: Released upon graduation • Court Recommended • Court Ordered: County Sentenced and Court Ordered • Court Ordered: Probation w/out County Sentence

  4. Eligibility • Central Division, Direct Supervision • Bond • Open Charges • ** If sentenced directly to the program, some open charges are acceptable (Classification)

  5. Project New Attitudes • Project New Attitudes brings the Therapeutic Community approach to the jail system modified to focus mainly on the life skills component of the model. The goal is to provide the tools missing for many who come in and out of jail to become more successful members of the community at large.

Orientation to TC Confrontation Theory Anger/Stress Management Changing Criminal Thinking Program Rules TC Resources Communication Responsibility and Decision Making Phase I – Belonging-Participant will work on understanding and developing social skills, and becoming a responsible TC participant: Focus will include:

  7. Problem solving Higher Self Esteem Constructive criticism Positive attitude Identifying feelings Stress management Professional communication Self concept and work Support system development Phase II – Skill Building-The participant will focus on building life skills. Focus will include:

  8. Interview skills Career goals Job search skills Resume development Getting and holding a job Money Budgeting Credit Discharge Planning Phase III – Re entry-This phase will prepare the participant for graduation and entrance into aftercare. Focus will include:

  9. Americorp Pinellas County Extension, University of Florida, Department of Labor (Job Start)–(Gary Pleiss) Center for Conscious Living Physical Well Being (HIV, HEP C) PTEC 211, Social Services Overlay Services

  10. Financial Resources for: -Training - Housing -Transportation - Food -Financial Assistance Partnerships with: -PTEC -PERC -Pinellas Cares/211 -Social Services -Faith Based -Many Others.. Aftercare - Resources

  11. Typical Day The schedule varies each day in Project New Attitudes depending on programming, committee assigned time, and so forth. The weekend schedule varies, but is much more scaled back in terms of programming. PTEC administers training classes from 8:00 am through noon, after which much more free time is available into Sunday. What follows is a typical day in the program, taken from the actual schedule of December 14, 2001. 3:00 am Wake Up 3:30 am Breakfast 3:30-7:00 am Breakfast clean up and personal hygiene 7:00-8:00 am Lockdown and Count 8:00-8:45 am Morning House Meeting for all participants, Evening Review, Goal for the Day 9:00-10:00 am Morning Group: Counselor Wolfe for Phase I-Changing Criminal Thinking Counselor Skinner for Phase II-Chapter 7 –Anger Management Americorp Counselors for Phase III – Money Management 10:00 –10:30 am Lunch 10:30-11:15 am Lunch clean up and morning chores 11:15-12:15 pm Individual appointment with counselors, voluntary computer time, recreation yard, television determined by deputy 12:30-1:30 pm Afternoon Group I: Counselor McKirdy for Phase I –Chapter 3 – Criminal Lifestyles Counselor Bonifay for Phase II – Chapter 8 –Communication awareness skills Self Esteem Group for Phase III – Grace Koch, Georgine Higgenbotham 1:45-2:45 pm Afternoon Group II: Counselor Bonifay for Phase I – Chapter 2 –Intro. and Orientation to Program Modules Counselor McKirday for Phase II – Rational Emotive Therapy Self Esteem Group for Phase III – Grace Koch, Georgine Higgenbotham 2:45-3:00 pm Daily Wrap up and Evening Plan 3:00-4:00 pm Lock down and count 4:00-4:30 Dinner 4:30-5:00 After Dinner Clean Up 5:00-7:00 GED and Study Hall: Low volume program related conversations-Interviews, Journal time, letter writing, reading, voluntary 12 step meetings 7:00-9:15 Free time, television programming and Rec Yard use to be determined by deputy: Mandatory PAR Group: Last names S-Z: 8:00-9:30pm 9:15-10:15 Evening cleaning detail, assignments determined by deputy 10:30-11:00 Bedtime preparation for those not already in bed 11:00 Lights out: In bed, No conversation
