OBJECTIVES • To generate ideas to feed into the strategy for the competence Centre proposal. • InSPIRE (Innovation in Sustainable Production and Integration of Renewable Energy) – described by Elaine Groom this morning • THREE MAIN AREAS SUGGESTED: • Energy from Biomass • Sustainable Water and Wastewater Treatment • Energy Efficient Processing in Industry

METHODOLOGY • Involve all people – Industry, academic supervisor and staff/students • Divide into three EQUAL main groups – 1 h to tea • Chaired by • Me • Elaine • Alistair • EACH to consider the same three MAIN objective areas • Energy from Biomass • Sustainable Water and Wastewater Treatment • Energy Efficient Processing in Industry

METHODOLOGY • Elect someone to keep record • Expect each group to have different approaches to report – CAN SUB-DIVIDE IF NECESSARY • Suggestions to consider for remit • Main technical challenges long and short-term? • How might these be addressed? • What are the fundamental science bottlenecks? • What are the best approaches for industry to innovate • Education and training needs? • Who does what? • Science direction for academic team to take • Role of industry in technology development demonstrations • Commercial developments possible and mechanisms

OUTCOME • ALL MEET BACK AFTER TEA FOR 45mins • Report from chair / reporters on outcomes • 5 MINUTES PER GROUP • Keep to 4/5 main headings defined by the session team • General discussion input • Summary of outcomes and action points • Dissemination later for further digestion and comment/feedback • Take action in the programme in time • Bathe in the sunlight of success in the end
