  1. Program of study -Chemical Wood Processing (PS CWP)Department of Chemistry and Chemical TechnologiesHead of the Department – Prof. RNDr. František Kačík, PhD.Guarantor of Program of Study – Assoc. Prof. Anton Geffert, PhD. The Faculty of Wood Sciences and TechnologyTechnical University in ZvolenSlovakia

  2. Specialities of Chemical Wood Processing of Study in Slovakia • Federation of Pulp and Paper Industry (FPPI) SR needs circa 10 graduates yearly • labour market in SR is little and there are 2 universities • average number of graduated Paper Engineers in Slovakia per year (M.Sc. and B.Sc.) during the years2000 - 2004 was 23

  3. Average number of graduated Paper Engineers in Europe*per year - M.Sc. and B.Sc. Norway 8 Sweden 42 Finland 285 Latvia 4 UK 9 Poland 44 Germany 87 Holland 2 Czech Republic 4 Austria 6 Slovakia 23 Hungary 15 France 39 Italy 13 Portugal 22 Spain 5 *) during 2000-2004 Total 609

  4. Specialities of Chemical Wood Processing of Study at the Faculty of Wood Sciences and Technology • utilization of profound theoretical information about the properties, morphology and structureof wood • amplification of information with another technical knowledge - mainly about technologies of mechanical wood processing • utilization of large knowledge from other Faculties of TU in Zvolen about: silviculture and timber production,  manufacturing technique, ecological aspects of chemical wood processing

  5. Innovation of Chemical Wood Processing of Study at FWST in Zvolen • 2001- development of innovation plan of PS CWP • beginning 2002 - development of primary proposal of PS CWP and its sending to the chosen firms of FPPI SR to be commented • half 2002 - processing of in-remarks to proposal of PS CWP • end 2002- creation of the new PS at FWST (11) • 2003 - matching of the new PS and document preparation forthe accreditation • spring 2004- theaccreditation of PS CWP • sept. 2005 – beginning teaching of innovated PS CWP

  6. The remarks to PS CWP • chemical subjects - adequate area • more attention paid to mathematics, algebre and mainly statistics • to teach hydraulics separately from thermodynamics with heat engineering • divide pulp and paper production in 2 subjects • to teach equipments of PPI in advanced study • non-disvalue teaching of automated production management • need of basic information from machine subjects • elective subjects - ABC of econonic functions of mill

  7. The most valuable remarks to proposal of PS CWP (from Ing. Jozef Horák - graduate of FWST, who having finished his studies, moved up to papermill in Harmanec) • he had great knowledge about teaching synopses and study system at FWST • he compared his knowledge obtained during study at FWST with reality of production practice • he formed his remarks in units by individual sciences (chemistry, mathematics, thermodynamics etc.)

  8. Summary • proposal of study CWP has been based on personal constitution and maintenance and supply of department, • at developing of new program of study we should consider clearly defined profil of expectant graduate, • proposal of study CWP was annotated from practice, • remarks were evaluated and consequently new program of study was optimized • transformation process will be considered as finished after one period of study
