Location: Geographic Grid Latitude Lines (Parallels) - divides into two hemispheres at the equator - North And South; lines run from 0-90 degrees Special Latitudinal Lines - At 23.5 degrees North – Tropic of Cancer - At 23.5 degrees South – Tropic of Capricorn Degrees - can be divided into “minutes” - there are “60 Minutes” in one degree

  8. Location: Geographic Grid Longitude Lines (Meridians) - divide the earth into East and West hemispheres at the Prime Meridian (0 degrees) - Markings go from 0 to 180 degrees in both directions Intersection of Latitude and Longitude lines equals an absolute location

  9. Longitude and Latitude practice • Show of hands - who understand latitude and longitude? - who is still confused? - who is completely lost? • pair up based on understanding

  10. Exit – 3-2-1 • Identify 3 “tools” geographers use to study new regions? • List two themes of geography and the questions associated with those themes. • How would you use the themes of geography to study regions unfamiliar to you? Explain your answer.
