  1. TWS/WebAdmin The Web Interface for TWS Many thanks for your attention TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Critical Path Simulation HORIZONT Software for Datacenters Garmischer Str. 8 D- 80339 München Tel ++49(0)89 / 540 162 - 0www.horizont-it.com

  2. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Version 2.2 of TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS provides forecast and critical path runtime simulation. This presentation shows examples of the basic functions: • Temporarily change, insert or delete dependencies and jobs in TWS/WebAdmin’s tables • Perform (mass) changes to the estimated durations • Save simulation scenarios for later reuse • Calculate the total duration of the critical path of all selected jobs • Shows the jobs on the critical path • In a list (table) • As netplan (flowchart) • As barchart

  3. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can start Simulation from AD Modify or Query part Specify search criteria and click Simulation

  4. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Enter a name and description to save your simulation scenario (selection and modifications)

  5. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can load and reuse your saved simulation scenarios later

  6. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation General information about the simulation (not jet started) The selected applications and jobs Click Simulate to start the calculation of planned start times and the critical path

  7. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Enter a default start time and check if time dependencies should be taken into account or not (input arrivals are always considered to build the external dependencies)

  8. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation The critical path has been calculated (45:02 min) Operations on the critical path are marked

  9. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation If you scroll right, you can see estimated planned start and end times, which are calculated, based on the dependencies and estimated durations

  10. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can define one or more change rules, e.g. add/subtract a percentage or set a specific duration. Here we add 10 percent to the duration of operations on WS=WAIT of applications TCP* Here we add 10 percent to the duration of operations on WS=WAIT of applications TCP*

  11. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation The higher durations result in a longer critical path (49:32 min) The new “computed simulation durations”

  12. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Maybe some dependencies should be changed. In the Netplan, the operations on the critical path are marked red You can insert, delete, modify applications and operations just for simulation

  13. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Click on Modify and you can change “everything” of an application

  14. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation e.g. change or add external predecessor by using the application/operation picker

  15. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation The changed application will be stored in TWS/WebAdmin’s internal database with state “simulation”. You can keep that simulation version as long as you want and optionally you can take it over into TWS.

  16. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation The recalculated critical path is shorter now (38:32 min), even if the durations are still increased

  17. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can see which applications has been changed for simulation and which are unchanged (actual)

  18. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation In the new netplan, the operations of changed applications are marked green and the new critical path is marked red (the blue one’s are identical to the current version in TWS)

  19. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation If there are time depending jobs, the calculation routine can optionally take care about it. The critical path may get longer (here 01:41:01 now)

  20. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can see which operations are time dependent and it’s start times

  21. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation The new critical path Double click shows the details

  22. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation There is also a useful bar chart with timeline etc. Operations on the critical path are marked red

  23. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Applications are maybe scheduled in different run cycles on different days. Enter a date and you will get only that applications, scheduled on that day (e.g. Thursday)

  24. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Some more jobs are scheduled on that day (e.g. Friday)

  25. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation And that results in a different critical path

  26. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation Simulation works also with lots of jobs and dependencies

  27. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation You can zoom in the netplan and follow the marked critical jobs

  28. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation There is also a netplan and a list of the critical jobs only

  29. TWS/WebAdmin for z/OS Simulation TWS/WebAdmin’s forecast and critical path simulation enables you to • Calculate the critical path of selected applications, scheduled for any day in the future • Try “what if” scenarios like • What if some dependencies are changed • What if new operations are inserted • What if all jobs A* are running 20 percent longer • … • Verify the critical path • In a list • In a netplan (flowchart) • In a bar chart • Planned enhancements: Take the durations • of a past run day • from another input file • …
