  1. Mariinsk This project was done by Tarasova Alyona, Skrylnikova Natalya, Boyarova Nastya.

  2. Mariinsk is a small town which is situated in the West Siberia. For a long time it had been a village but in 1867 it was transformed into town. Our town was named in honour of empress Maria. Mariinsk is located on the bank of the river Kija.

  3. It flows from the northern slope of the Abakan Mountains. Why is it called Kija? There is a legend that the Kija is called in honour of a girl Kija who fell in love with a young man but her love was unhappy. So her tears became the river. There are also mountains called the Archekas near Mariinsk. The Archekas is like a beautiful fairy tale.

  4. There are a lot of stories and legends about Archekas. Why? Probably because of its wonderful and mysterious nature. It has a lot of kinds of birds, animals in the forests and fish in the river Kija. But there is no need to speak about it. You’d better come see this beauty.

  5. Mariinsk is called “a wooden flower” because it has a lot of masters who create magnificent laces out of wood. They cover the facades of the buildings in our town. The symbol of Mariinsk is also a wooden flower.

  6. The people of Mariinsk remember the history of the town and people who glorified it. There are some museums such as the museum of Vladimir Chivilikhin (a well known poet), the Museum of Local Lore, the museum of birch bark

  7. The Museum of Local lore was founded in the VIII century.

  8. In 1949 the Palace of Culture was opened in area of the alcohol plant. In honour of the warriors who struggled against the fascism during the Great Patriotic war the Monument of Glory was founded. In 2005 the fountain was opened.

  9. Mariinsk contains a lot of educational institutions. Many of them have a long history and their own traditions. They are Mariinsk Pedagogical College, Technical College, College of agriculture, Art School, Music School and many others.

  10. Although Mariinsk is a small , provincial town it is very cosy and beautiful. It is simply remarkable and wonderful town. We love it very much.
