Entry Point – Cinema experience ‘How to be a Pirate’ in the school hall Celebration – Pirate Party Mathematics • Recognising, sorting and ordering coins • Recognising and writing numbers up to 20 and beyond • Number patterns – odd and even, using 100 square • Properties of 2d and 3d shapes – solving problems using shapes • Simple addition and subtraction up to 20, including doubling, sharing and halving • To begin to understand measuring using non standard and standard units • Estimating using our number knowledge Communication, Language and Literacy (Prime Area) • Range of texts linked to Pirates, poetry • Character descriptions • Retelling narratives, creating their own pirate stories • Writing simple captions, labels, lists and speech bubbles • Treasure maps, following instructions • Talking Box • Daily Phonics - including group and individual reading Expressive Arts and Design • Designing and making treasure maps • Making 3d models e.g. telescopes, swords etc • Make eye patches, hats and pirate faces • Percussion instruments –stories • Pirate actions and dancing • Role-play – ‘Pirate adventure’ Understanding the World • Investigating floating and sinking • Using simple tools and techniques to connect different objects • To understand and use simple maps • To look at similarities and differences between themselves, others and families • To look at volcanoes and talk about what is happening and why • To recognise a range of technology at home and school and understand what it is used for Personal, Social and Emotional Development(Prime Area) • Risk taking – being in charge of risk assessments • Me and my world.: how to look after the local environment . • To understand the purpose of different features of the local environment. • Money : what it is and how we use it. • Physical Development (Prime Area) • Body shape and control on the apparatus, sequencing and evaluating • Travelling in a variety of ways at different levels • Pirate parachute games • Take 10 activities • Letter and number formation • Using simple tools, e.g. claws and tweezers Reception Spring Term 2014 Curriculum Overview
