Bell Activity • Find your seat number on the class list. • Find the words “basin” and “plateau” on your study guide and complete the following information for the words. • Find the definition using a glossary. • Think about what you believe this definition means then write a sentence using the word. • Draw a picture of something that shows you know what the word means. • Complete the rest of the definition • Where should your backpack be?

We have three tasks to finish today. • First, take the class policies and procedures test on the UTIPS page. • Click simple log in then type your first name and last name on the correct lines. • Put the number of your class hour at the beginning of your last name. • Example: firstname: Nancy lastname: 1Thatcher • Second, finish your essay on the paper provided and turn it in along with your Study Guide. • Second, complete the Utah Studies website tour, filling out the answers on your paper. • Third, find the first Utah counties game on the Links page of the website and practice locating the counties.

  10. Note Taking • Copy this information onto a piece of lined paper. • As we go through the slides take notes on each topic in its box. • Beginning note takers copy what is on the screen; Advanced note takers take what they read, hear, and see and put it in their own words.

  11. Human/Environment Interaction We change the environment and sometime Mother Nature changes it back.    Humans change their environment to make it more suitable to their needs. We heat our buildings in the winter, and cool them in the summer. Nature continues to shape our environment with erosion, deposition, etc. In southern Utah, the Navajo and the sheep they have raised have adapted to the dry environment. All places on Earth have advantages and disadvantages for human settlement.
