  1. In 1982, two Americans (Tom and Susan) came to spend a year in Paris. Chloe welcomed them with open arms! Chloe, Tom, and Susan spent Christmas in Ithaca with Tom’s family. Santa left a stocking full of goodies for Chloe by the fireplace, and this time there were no disasters waiting for them when they got home. The American Connection In 1983, Chloe’s family spent the year in the US, in Virginia. They visited Tom and Susan in Ithaca, NY at Christmas time and they all went skating on the frozen lake. Little did they know that when they returned to Virginia they would find their pipes frozen and burst, and their very own skating rink in the basement! In January, Susan and Chloe traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico together. They visited an Anastasi ruin and went cross- country skiing. By 1991, Tom and Susan were living in Madison, Wisconsin. Chloe came to stay with them for nine months to perfect her English (and to experience the joys of the American mid- west). Chloe took English classes at the University of Wisconsin, and Flamenco dancing lessons in town. She and Tom hiked in the woods, and she explored the countryside with Tex. One of Chloe’s bindings broke, so they shared one pair of skis: one person skiing and the other standing on the backs of the skis. It worked pretty well until they tried to stop, when the person on the back inevitably fell off, rolling head over heels in the snow. Tom and Susan thank Chloe and her family for their friendship through the years, and wish Chloe and Mischa a long and loving life together!
