  3. How to get in touch • Speak to your child’s teacher on the Year 1 door at the end of the day. • Pass a message on through the staff member on the door in the morning. • Phone to arrange an appointment via the office. • Email parentinbox@brookburn.manchester.sch.uk • Parents’ evenings

  4. We would always ask that, wherever you have a problem or a concern, we as class teachers are your first port of call. We are the staff who work with and know your children better than anyone else and we hope that we would always be able to listen and respond to concerns to remedy any issue. If you do feel that you need to take your concern further, you should speak to the Key Stage 1 Phase Leader – Miss Bergin. Our SENDCo and Deputy Headteachers are always available to offer support, however, discussions at class teacher / phase lead level would always be encouraged before seeking SLT involvement.

  5. School doors open from 8.50am.The Year 1 door will be open until 9am in the morning and it will be locked from 3.35pmafter school has finished. From Thursday 12th September, please leave your children at the door and encourage them to be independent in organising their own belongings. We will, of course, be on hand to assist them if they do need any help! If the door is locked, children must register at the school office. A record is kept in the class register of consistently poor punctuality and attendance and parents will be contacted. If your child is experiencing any problems that may be affecting their attendance or punctuality, then please make contact with us so we can offer our support. 

  6. We expect the children to always: - Work hard • Be Gentle • Listen • Look after property • Be kind and helpful • Be honest

  7. We use a traffic light system in class to monitor behaviour and every week a child will be rewarded in Golden Assembly with a certificate. We also use Class Dojo which lets children earn points for working hard.

  8. Some Dates for Your Diary • Individual school photos: 4th October • Parents’ evening: 15th and 17th October • Halloween disco: 24th October

We would like to promote the importance of homework and would appreciate a small note in the reading records to let us know which website or app your child has been working on each week. Reading books can be changed every day. We encourage the children to bring their reading folder in every day as we will record notes from Guided Reading sessions in their Reading Record if they have brought it.

  11. Mystery Reader Every Thursday we invite a grown up to come and read to the children. The children will not know who it is each week so please keep it a secret! Mystery Reader starts at 3pm on Thursdays so please come to the main office at 2.55pm and one of our teaching assistants will come and bring you down to the classroom.
