  1. Integrated Safety and Environmental Management Michael Scharfenstein LCLS Project ES&H Coordinator

  2. LCLS ISEMS Project work planning and execution reflects a systematic integration of ISEMS throughout its process. • ISEMS requirements in design • Contracted work to date = No TRCs / DARTs • Technical Systems installations = commitment to safety (no injuries or damaged equipment)

  3. Technical System Design Reviews The LCLS has a process of conducting design reviews of all technical system components. • Laboratory Citizen’s Committees • Dedicated safety reviews for the project The review by the CC’s is similar to peer reviews at other Labs and projects.

  4. Contracted Work LCLS Environment, Safety and Health Plan • Aggressive ES&H selection criteria • EMR equal to or better than 0.81 • Designated Safety Responsibility • Written Site Specific Safety Program These have been applied to the selection of contracted work to date, including the CM/GC.

  5. Technical System Installations LCLS Work Authorization Procedure • WBS mangers process • Work planning, engineering and safety reviews • Approvals by appropriate Lab authorities The LCLS Project Directorate has established a requirement that provides authorization to proceed on all major work packages.

  6. LCLS Injector ARR Planning and reviews are underway to support start of commissioning of the Injector System in December 2006. • Accelerator Readiness Review • ARR for the Injector System In May 2005 the Lab Director appointed D. Schultz to plan the Injector ARR.

  7. ISEMS has been integrated into all phases of the project per DOE Order 450.1, Environmental Protection Program Implementation.
