As an avid activist, fighting for the rights of my people I embraced conflict which is part and parcel of the journey. When your ideals and innovative actions threatens a people you will immediately meet conflict, character assassination and sometimes contemptuous behaviour. For me a conflict is an opportunity in disguise it brings in it's wake a chance to innovate or shed light on things in a different manner.

  2. If there was one thing I would want to do it would be to teach 'media literacy". In college this was one of my favourite classes. One of the most important media literacy skills is Deconstructing media message. Closely examining and :taking apart" media messages. This can expose the point of view of the media, their values and their "BIASES". Example: Have you ever watch the news and they air a story about someone that was a victim of a crime in a urban area and at the end of the story they say, "no word on whether drugs were involved." Right there, immediately, they have just discredited the victim and have tainted your views of what happen. This happens even when there isn't any reason to even suspect the crime had anything to do drugs. This is common practice use to make a story seem sexy and defame blacks and our community. Media message use a number of techniques to try to persuade us to believe or do something. If we can spot the techniques being used we're less likely to be persuaded, and more likely to think for ourselves. I personally haven't watch FAKE news (in the words of #45) in over 15 years. I choose to think for myself !

  3. In 1964 Malcolm X stood before a crowd, where he would later be assassinated and said: "This is the press, an irresponsible press," he said. "It will make the criminal look like he's the victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal. If you aren't careful, the newspaper will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." Over Fifty + years later, these words are just as true now as they were then.
