  1. Appearance vs. RealityChris Spence:Director of Education tdsb By: Amir Eblan & Phillip Jackson

  2. Chris Spence • Toronto District School Board Director of Education. • Spence received a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology from Simon Fraser University in 1985. • A running back, he was drafted by the BC Lions in the third round of the 1985 CFL Draft, but his CFL career was ended in 1988 by an Achilles tendon injury. • Received a Bachelor of Education degree from York University, a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto in 1993 and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in 1996.

  3. Chris Spence • He became Director of Education for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board on September 1, 2004 and served until July 2009 when he became the Director of Education for the Toronto District School Board.

  4. Appearance • Chris Spence was one to look up to, and someone as a role model. He had many great achievements, from receiving many university degrees to having many years of experience being the director of education at 2 different boards.

  5. Director of Education Responsibilities • Takes the necessary steps to provide a safe and caring environment that fosters well being, and maintains respectful and responsible behaviour for each student. • Considers the implementation of various measures to assess the academic achievement of pupils, including but not limited to tests administered by the Education Quality Accountability Office, average grades on student achievement reports, and the average number of secondary school credits accumulated.

  6. The Scandal • Accused of plagiarism allegations, former director of the TDSB. • Read many speeches and had many biographies that he had plagiarised from a number of sources. • These sources include the Toronto star, American publications, and many different books.

  7. Reality • The reality of Chris Spence is much different than the appearance before hand. Many people now look down at Spence, mainly because of his actions that went unknown until a little while ago. The reality for Spence is that he committed a plagiarism crime, and is now paying the ultimate price for it, which in this case would be resigning from his position at TDSB.
