  3. Trisomy - three of the same number of chromosome

  4. Down Syndrome • Trisomy 21 • Three copies of the 21st chromosome • Mild to severe Mental Retardation • Increased susceptibility to many diseases and higher frequency of some birth defects

  5. When something goes wrong with the division of the sex chromosome….. • Turners- only one X chromosome is inherited • Women are sterile, Sex organs don’t develop at puberty • Kleinefelter’s syndrome • XXY Kleinfelters small testes, man is sterile, female characteristics

  6. Trisomy 18 • Birth defects , increase in infant mortality, developmental delay • Trisomy 13 • Small head, birth size, heart defects, vision and hearing problems, disabilities
