  2. Introduction The SISA safety awards recognise leading practice in the area of injury prevention and management for self insured companies in South Australia. To achieve this nominations are sought for a range of categories as listed below:

Consolidated Approach Award – less than 500 employees • Consolidated Approach Award – more than 500 employees • Injury Prevention Award – less than 500 employees • Injury Prevention Award – more than 500 employees • Injury Management Award • Practitioner Award • Outstanding Employee Contribution Award

  4. Consolidated Approach Award This award seeks to recognise the establishment of an integrated management system that delivers continuous improvement in OHSW and injury management performance. The following areas must be demonstrated in the submission:

  5. Essential • A comprehensive system covering both OHSW & injury management • Clear alignment to AS4801 [or equivalent] • Evidence of executive and line management leadership • Evidence of employee engagement and consultation • Evidence that the system is used by front line workers • Effective use of performance indicators to achieve continuous improvement in injury performance • Effective audit processes to identify improvement opportunities for both the system and programs Highly Desirable • Effective management of contractors and positive “supply chain” influence

  6. Injury Prevention Award This award seeks to recognise the development of an innovative solution to address a workplace hazard(s) and associated risk(s) The following areas must be demonstrated in the submission:

Essential • The way the hazard(s) and associated risk(s) was identified and understood • A description of the elements of the solution or initiative • The specific benefit and impact achieved and how this was achieved • Involvement of the workforce in addressing the issue and/or in the implementation of the new solution • The role and involvement of line management • Evidence of employee engagement and consultation • A description why the solution is an innovative, effective approach Highly desirable • The ability for the solution to be transferred to other workplaces

  8. Injury Management Award This award seeks to recognise innovative solutions in Injury Management practice The following areas must be demonstrated in the submission:

Essential •  A clear description of an innovative solution or initiative in Injury management practice for example: Claims administration Early intervention Rehabilitation and Return to Work strategies Access and Equity Practitioner Competency and Development Medical focus/GP/practitioner performance and approach • An outline of the benefits achieved and impact on the workforce • Evidence of employee engagement and consultation Highly desirable • The ability for this innovation to be transferred to other locations and/or companies

  10. Practitioner Award This award seeks to recognise highly effective Injury Prevention, Injury Management Case Manager or Rehabilitation Coordinators. The following areas must be demonstrated in the submission:

An outline of the benefits achieved and impact on the workforce • Description of their effectiveness in their role • How the individual stands out from their peers • Examples of personal leadership and commitment • Results attributable to the Practitioner's efforts achieved in the past 12 months • Ability to communicate effectively, consult with and influence others

  12. Outstanding Employee Contribution Award This award seeks to recognise non-OHS&W/Injury Management practitioners who have made an outstanding personal contribution to improving OHSW outcomes or developed an innovative solution The following areas must be demonstrated in the submission:

  13. Description of contribution made by the individual • Outline of the results achieved • How the individual is seen as a leader by their peers • Outline of the style and approach adopted
