  4. The Beginning of World War II. World War II began in 1939. It was unleashed by the German fascists under the guidance of A. Hitler. Many countries were involved in that war.

  5. The Beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In 1941 the war came to our land.Early in the morning on the 22d of June fascists exceeded our bounds. They wanted to enslave our people, to capture our natural resourcesand to destroy the culture of our country.

  6. The Beginning of the Great Patriotic War. It was the most terrible war in the history of our country. It lasted for almost 4 years (1418 days and nights) and killed 30 mln. of Soviet soldiers and peaceful citizens.

  7. The Beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Everybody who could be at war went to the front.The rest helped the army in the rear, providing it with food-stuff, equipment and ammunition. Women and children worked on factories, plants and on the fields instead of men.

  8. The Beginning of the Great Patriotic War. First, the Soviet Army had to fall back standing on the defense of Brest, Kiev, Smolensk, Odessa, Sevastopol and others. Leningrad turned out to be in the enemies’ siege. The siege lasted 900 days. More than 1 mln. of citizens and defenders died but the enemy didn’t come into the city.

  9. The Liberation of our Motherland. In autumn of 1941 fascists came to Moscow. For the first time in the history of that war the fascist army was defeated in the battle for Moscow. The Soviet people began to believe in their future victory. But fascists were a success to capture Belorussia, Ukraine, Crimea and Caucasus. They reached the banks of the Volga near Stalingrad.

  10. The Liberation of our Motherland. The heroic defense of Stalingrad lasted two months. It was the greatest battle. Each house of this city was an impregnable fortress.

  11. The Liberation of our Motherland. A lot of other battles took place on the fields of our country. At last in 1944 invaders were banished from our land. But the war was not over. It was necessary together with France, Great Britain and the USA to finish the defeat of Nazi Germany and its allies – Italy and Japan.

  12. The Liberation of our Motherland. Hundreds thousand of the Soviet soldiers left their lives liberating other countries – Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Austria and China from fascists.

  13. The Liberation of our Motherland. In May, 1945 after hard battles, the Soviet troops took by storm Berlin - the capital of fascist Germany. Two Soviet soldiers Egorov and Kantariya put up the flag of our Motherland on the top of Reichstag in the centre of Berlin...

  14. The Liberation of our Motherland. On the 8th of May, 1945 nazy Germany was defeated. On the 9th of May the Soviet country celebrated Victory Day with great triumph. Since than the Day of Victory over fascism is celebrated annually.
