  1. Project: STAT-OBJECT OBJECT-ORIENTED APPROACH TO OFFICIAL STATISTICS

  2. OBJECTIVES STAT-OBJECT’s main objective is to look ahead to the time when ESS would need to update its systems for organising the production and dissemination of statistics and to provide it with an effective capability for doing so. More specifically STAT-OBJECT aims at: • Formalising in IT terms (Object-Oriented Modelling) the concepts of the Statistical Production Process according to User needs (ISTAT, INSEE, Stats-Sweden) • Defining a service-based software architecture that • enforces separation between common technical services and statistical services • provides a uniform integration backbone for ESS systems and services • allows development of new added-value services from composition of existing • Providing Prototype solutions that apply the STAT-OBJECT approach to selected parts of the Statistical Production Process

  3. Stat-Object Consortium consists of: PARTICIPATION • Users: • ISTAT - I • INSEE - F • Statistics Sweden - S • Suppliers: • Informer - IT Company - EL (Administrative Coordinator) • University Of Patras - EL (Technical Coordinator) • Artemis - IT Company - L

  4. Statistical Production Services Collection Analysis Harmonisation Dissemination Disclosure Collaboration “ESS Middleware” Common Technical Services INNOVATIVE ELEMENTS Innovation: User-driven Service-based IT architecture Quality

  5. TECHNOLOGY INVOLVED Relevant technologies for ESS Middleware • Common Warehouse Model (Object Management Group) • Distributed Service-based Architecture (Web Council - Web Service Description Language) • Integration with existing systems (SUN/Enterprise Connector Architecture)

  6. APPROACH/METHODOLOGY Conceptualisation (WP4) Technical Consolidation (WP11) Domain Modelling & Analysis Identify Constraints Functional & Non Functional Requirements Experimentation System Architecture Implementation & Integration Design Validation & Transition (WP5, WP6, WP7, WP8, WP9, WP10)

  7. WORKPLAN PRINCIPLES • Project will finish in 2 years • Two stage-approach • M01 - M06: Conceptualisation of concepts and architecture • M06 - M24: Prototyping through increments • Incremental prototyping • M06 - M12: First prototype of concepts and architecture • M13 - M14: Revision • M15 - M21: Second prototype • M22 - M24: Finalisation
