  1. Warm-Up • Create a chart on your whiteboard and fill it in with possible positive and negative effects of Multiculturalism

  2. Objectives • SWBAT define cultural diffusion • SWBAT identify and define how culture traits spread • SWBAT identify and define the impact of cultural diffusion on individuals and societies around the world

  3. Culture Traits • A culture trait is any trait of human activity learned in social interactions and passed around through communication. • These can be lots of things: • An object • A belief • A type of food • An article of clothing • A custom or tradition • Lots of other things! Basically the smallest unit of a culture that combines with other traits to create the culture

  4. Lizzie’s Morning • Short story of a girl going through her morning routine.

  5. What is cultural Diffusion? • Cultural diffusion is when one Culture Trait (part of a culture) moves from one place to another place.

  6. What are some examples of Cultural Diffusion? • People all over the world eat McDonald’s. • People all over the world wear Blue Jeans • Both of these examples started in the USA and moved to other places.

  7. Classwork • You’re going to get three examples of cultural diffusion – your paper is labeled with either a 1 or 2. • You need to read through your examples and answer the accompanying questions. • Once you’re finished, meet with a partner who has the other number and share your examples with each other. • Write your partner’s examples in the blank boxes (paraphrase). • Answer the questions about your partners examples. • Discuss your answers.

  8. HOMEWORK Make this table in your composition book and complete it tonight Why do you think these products were made somewhere outside the USA?

  9. (Review) The USA and Market Economies • The United States buys and sells more stuff than any other country. • The difference between countries and people is that it is in countries, really big companies do the buying and selling, like Nike, Coca Cola, and McDonalds.
