  2. Learning Intention We are learning to utilize effective coaching skills in order to have a learning focused conversation in order to promote equity in all math classrooms.

  3. Success Criteria We will know we are successful when we can accurately identify and use effective coaching questions.

  4. Stances • Consulting Stance- supplies information, provides advice for next steps, provides the why, what, and how, of thinking. • Collaboration Stance- shared idea development and strategies for next steps (co-development) • Coaching Stance- guides and supports idea generation from the teacher Mentoring Matters pp 21-29

  5. Activity 1 As you reflect on the questions developed in January, which questions were written from a coaching stance? • With your table group identify the questions that remained in a coaching stance. • Record your thinking on the template.

  6. Activity 2 As you reflect on the questions developed in January, did the coach stay in the Stage of Concern of the teacher? • With your table group, use the remaining cards to identify which questions stayed in the appropriate Stage of Concern. • Record your thinking on the template.

  7. Activity 3 As you reflect on the questions developed in January, which questions utilize effective coaching components? • With your table group, use the remaining cards to identify which questions use effective coaching components. • Record your thinking on the template.

  8. Learning Intention & Success Criteria We are learning to utilize effective coaching skills in order to have a learning focused conversation in order to promote equity in all math classrooms. We will know we are successful when we can accurately identify and use effective coaching questions.

  9. Reflection As you think about a coaching conversation you have had in the last month, what were some challenges you had maintaining the coaching stance and/or addressing the teacher’s stage of concern?
