Title 1Parent Involvement Policy • Coordination of technical assistance and support necessary to assist participating schools in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance. • Parent activity examples: PTA activities, parent volunteers, access to Parent Resource Centers, Student Support Teams, Academic Intervention Services, School-Parent Compact -CORE

Thank you!!!!!! • The National PTA has named Charlotte Avenue School as a School of Excellence. • CAS is 1 of 6 schools in NYS who has been awarded this prestigious award. • Based on School to community communication and positive relationships. • Our students are Making the Difference and are feeling empowered to make smart choices for their community, on their own, and in our district

  6. Technology Committee • Thank you CAS parents for your tremendous support last school year. Through various fundraising events and activities, we were able to purchase 20 iPads for our school!

  7. Upcoming Events: -Bottle/Can Drive -Parents’ Night Out Friday, Oct. 17 Friday, Dec. 5 -Yankee Candle Holiday Sale More information to follow in the upcoming weeks.

  8. Summer Reading!!!! • This was the first time we ever had this type of challenge. CAS rocked!!! • Over 44,000 minutes were read by our CAS students. • Parents, thank you or your support. Without you encouraging your children this would not have been possible. Please continue to have your children read at home. We will have a new incentive beginning soon.

  9. The goal of the Dignity for All Students Act • is to provide ALL • New York State public school students with • a safe and supportive environmentfree from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property and/or at a school function.

  10. Dignity Act Reporting Basics Material incidents of discrimination and/or harassment include, but not are not limited to, threats, intimidation or abuse based on a person’s actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender, or sex. There is a DASA form for parents to fill out if they need to report an incident. This can be found on our district web page under DASA. Our new school counselor is Andrea Czerwinski. Please contact her anytime you have a question or a concern.

  11. CCLS- What is this? We are in our 3rd year of The Common Core State Standards We have seen the following changes in ELA : An increase in reading more non-fiction than fiction Learning about the world by reading Reading more challenging material Conversations are more focused on reading and writing using "evidence" An increase on learning more vocabulary words *Check out the web-site www.engageny.org

  12. CCLS Continued We have seen the following changes in Math : Building skills across grade levels Learning more in depth about less concepts A focus on math facts- Math Olympics held in April Thinking faster to solve problems- must learn their facts Use math in the real world

Academic Intervention ServicesAIS • Academic Intervention Services, AIS, is an instructional asset to learning. • It is a specialized, targeted approach to meeting student needs before they become hurtles. • If your child is recognized as a student who would benefit from this program you will be notified by letter. • AIS is mandatory. Students are only intended to be in this program until they have accomplished their learning goal.

  14. Safety reminders: • If you are driving your child to school pull into the parking lot and drop off your child by the cafeteria doors. • No stopping or parking on Charlotte Ave. by the school. • 15 MPH on Charlotte Ave and Mark Dr. by the school • Must have Government ID to enter the school and obtain a visitor’s pass • School volunteers must fill out a form to work in the school. The form is available on the district web-site under the community tab as well as in our office. Please fill it out and send it into the office.

Health reminders: • You should not send your child to school if he/she has: • Fever, vomiting, diarrhea in the past 24 hours • Strep throat (must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning • Bad cold with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept your child awake at night • Head lice (nit free) • Pink eye • Undiagnosed rash

Thank you Very Much! • Our school opening was fantastic!!! • Your patience and willingness to help us reach our goal of maintaining a safe environment for our students, staff and each other has been amazing. • We have received many compliments on the noticeable changes to the calm arrival and departure of students. • By this time last year we had already had 1 car accident in our parking lot, as the year continued we had a second car accident as well as 2 scary incidents of students almost being hit by a car. • This year we are looking for zero incidents!!!!!!!!!
