  2. Here are some words about baking for you to learn. boil – to cook in boiling water bring to the boil – to heat water until it boils Blend- To form a uniform mixture: melt – heat something (eg chocolate) until it becomes liquid roll – to make eg pastry flat using a rolling-pin . self-raising flour – flour with some raising agent (eg baking powder) added. serve – when we have finished cooking we put the food on the table or on plates ready to eat.

  3. Batter--A liquid or semiliquid mixture, as of flour, milk, and eggs, used in cooking. Scrape-- to remove (a layer) by rubbing, esp to smooth or clean Pour--To make (a liquid or granular solid) stream or flow, as from a container . Flip--To turn over or around, especially with a light quick motion Spatula--A small implement having a broad, flat, flexible blade that is used to mix, spread, or lift material. Frosting--Icing, as on a cake. Crunch—To chew with a noisy crackling sound. Stir- To pass an implement through (a liquid, for example) in circular motions so as to mix or cool the contents:stirred the soup before tasting it.

  4. Chocolate Cake Ingredients This recipe calls for: 2 cups Sugar 1/2 cup Butter 1/2 cup Hershey's Cocoa 1 teaspoon Vanilla 1 cup Boiling Folgers Coffee 1/2 cup Buttermilk 2 Eggs 2 cups Flour 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda Chocolate Cake Ingredients Chocolate Cake Equipment For this recipe you will need: Mixer, or hand mixer 2 Cake Pans Measuring Cups Measuring Spoons Cooling Rack Wax Paper Pam Non-Stick Spray Chocolate Cake Equipment

  5. First Step: Butter And Sugar First in the mixer beat together: 2 cups Sugar 1/2 cup Butter 1/2 cup Hershey's Cocoa Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Beaten Chocolate This is what the mixture should look like once it has been beaten.

  6. Second Step: Adding Wet And Dry Ingredients Next add to batter and beat in: 1/2 cup Buttermilk 2 Eggs 1 teaspoon Vanilla 1 cup Boiling Folgers Coffee (this is the secret ingredient and what makes this the best cake ever)

  7. Third Step: Adding Dry Ingredients First mix together on a paper plate: 2 cups Flour 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda Then while the mixer is on a low speed add the ingredients from the paper plate into mixing bowl slowly. Continue to mix the cake batter until there are no more dry ingredients visible. Scrape sides of bowl if needed while mixing. Adding Dry Ingredients

  8. Fourth Step: Preparing Cake Pans  Take both cake pans and spray them with Pam. Then put a round sheet of wax paper (the size of the bottom of the pans) in the bottom of each of the cake pans. After this spray them again with Pam so that all the insides of both are covered.  Chocolate Cake Pan Fifth Step: Pouring Batter And Baking Then pour the cake batter into the cake pans making sure that each pan has half of the batter. Then place them into a pre-heated oven of 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Test if done by inserting a tooth pick, if tooth pick comes out clean cake is done. Cool to room temperature. 9. Sixth Step: Flipping Cake Once the cake has cooled take a knife and cut around the side of the pan to loosen the cake. Then put a cooling rack on top of it and flip the cake over. Flipping Chocolate Cake Seventh Step: Removing Cake Pan Next slowly remove the cake pan. Removing Chocolate Cake From Pan

  10. Eighth Step: Taking Off Wax Paper Now, remove the wax paper by slowly peeling it off horizontally rather than straight up. This will prevent the wax paper from taking pieces of cake with it. Taking Off Wax Paper

  11. First Step: Frosting First Layer Now take a spatula and spread on a very thin layer of frosting. You only need enough so that the other layer will stick, don't drench it in frosting. First Layer Second Step: Adding Second Layer Now place the unfrosted second layer on the frosted first layer. Adding Second Layer

  12. Third Step: Frosting Sides Now, this cake is supposed to have a textured frosting job and it is supposed to look wavy so don't worry about trying to smooth the sides out, just make it stick. Fourth Step: Frosting Top To frost the top scoop out a large amount of frosting onto the top and then spread it around using the end of your spatula rather that the edge. If you are doing it right it should look like the picture to the left.

  13. Fifth Step: Pecans Now take one of your favorite roasted nuts. Cook them one minute at a time to insure they do not burn. When their are done they will have a little bit of a crunch, and will have a very nutty smell.
