The Singularity • Speed of technological change has been accelerating, is limited by the basic intelligence of the human brain. • The hypothesis that technological change has and will go exponential • Foundation: Moore’s Law • The future will be unpredictable and qualitatively different from today. • To degree, today we are incapable of conceiving what life might be like beyond the year 2025 • The Singularity will allow us to transcend these limitations of our biological bodies and brains ... The Point of Departure • Between 2000 and 2050 social development will rise twice as much as in the previous 15,000 years • We are approaching the greatest discontinuity in history • Genetic/nanotechnology/robotic revolution culminating with the merging of human and machine intelligence in the 2040s thereby creating the basis for immortality.
