It’s quite hard to explain and may be entirely dependent on the person’s mindset, but feeling lonely and at times alone could draw to addiction problem, either drugs or alcohol. In general, when a person feels lonely, he or she wants to be alone and may turn to substances in order to get the desired effect of feeling happy again. Feelings that often cause addiction: When a person is emotionally trapped, his or her escape could fall into intake of drugs and other substances to prevent these feelings from arising. The following are the feelings of loneliness or isolation that could result to addiction problem: The feeling of inability to connect with others, both physically and emotionally The feeling of being isolated from others Feeling of extreme sadness when no one is there to listen and talk with you Feeling that no one cares for you Feeling of abandonment Feeling of discontentment Feeling left out when in group

Remember, you can only succeed with your addiction recovery treatment if you stay away from the trigger factors that will make you sad and attract you give in to your cravings in order to feel good or happy. Build your self-esteem One of the best approaches to fight loneliness and your addiction problemis building one’s self- esteem. Why? When you managed to be comfortable with yourself, you become more confident that you can withstand being alone and not encounter thoughts of having to choose drugs or alcohol just to remain in a good mood. If you have established your self-worth, you have more chances of building new relationships along the process. Loneliness can be one of the causes of addiction and having a relapse. Avoid at all cost experiencing loneliness by joining support groups, fellowships and other organizations that will help you battle loneliness as a cause of addiction.
