  2. The First Years of OPEN MIND • Background of Founders • Grundig/Philips Cooperation (DECKEL Dialog 4/11) • First PCbased shop floor NC programming system • Partner of DASA (Daimler-Benz Aerospace) for the development of the UNIXbased NCcontroller MK21 • 1994 • Foundation of OPEN MIND Software Technologies GmbH • 1997 • Siemens (D), Hitachi Zosen Systems (J), Tecnomatix (USA)licensed and integrated OPEN MIND software

  3. OPEN MIND patents its method for the 5Axis simultaneous machining of cavities 1999 OPEN MIND patents its method for the 5Axis simultaneous machining of turbine impellers 2000 Siemens becomes Share Holder of OPEN MIND Technologies AG 2001 Mensch & Maschine Software AG acquires OPEN MIND Technologies AG via share swap OPEN MIND decided to integrate hyperMILL in SolidWorks to become Gold Partner 2002 2007 The Road to Success

  4. OPEN MIND Technologies AG – 2007 • Shareholder: Mensch & Maschine Software AG - 100% • World Headquarters: Wessling near Munich, Germany • Staff: 105 • Developers: 20 • Total Revenue 2007: 18,1 Mio EUR • Growth 2006 to 2007: +26% • Customers: approx. 5.300 • Installations: approx. 8.100 • Total MuM Revenue 2007: 212,94 Mio. EUR • Growth 2006 to 2007: + 25%

  6. Application Areas • Injection molds, forging and die casting industry • Single part production • High demands on surface quality, accuracy, efficiency, flexibility • Structural parts for aerospace industries • Special materials, high amount of material removal, special milling strategies • Sheet metal parts, model making • More sophisticated design, shorter life cycle time, higher quality demands • Turbo machinery • High sophisticated parts, undercuts, complex collision situation • Cubical and production parts • Rapid programming of drilling as well as 2D operations with several fixed inclinations ... • Mid and large scale production

  7. hyperMILL in SolidWorks Overview • 5 Axis Simultaneous to 2,5D in one system • Feature recognition • Milling and millTURN in one user interface • Own postprocessor technology

  8. 2,5D Feature Machining

  9. The hyperMILL Browser opens within SolidWorks with one click.

  10. Feature mapping recognizes all holes including threads, open and closed pockets

  11. All CAM- Features are recognized and are clearly displayed

  12. hyperMILL opens the Technology Database and applies stored process data to the Features

  13. Joblists are created automatically when applying the Technology macros to the geometry features

  14. Then the toolpaths are calculated for the automatically created jobs.

  15. After toolpath calculation, the internal simulation including holder is available

  16. One click and the NC-file will be created

  17. After generating the NC file can be opened

  18. millTURN The job-list can contain a mix of milling, drilling, and turning jobs. One postprocessor can be applied to these mixed job types.

  19. 3D-5axis Simultaneous Machining The stock model will be generated automatically as box or cylinder

  20. The tool plunges outside the stock model using the roughing strategy “optimized in” The necessary tool length will be calculated. Toolpath fillets generate smooth motion for HSC technology

  21. After the first roughing operation the stock model will be updated

  22. A Rest material roughing job is created by copying the first job, changing the tool and the reference stock model

  23. Z-level finishing strategy with spiral step down

  24. 5x Rest Machining strategy will be defined with a desired tilt angle. If a holder collision is detected, hyperMILL changies the tilt angle automatically to avoid the collision

  25. The desired tilt angle will be constant as long as possible

  26. Changing the inclination of the C-axis will be calculated automatically
