  1. 6 STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR FIRE DAMPER INSPECTION

  2. Know Your Timeline Being a facility manager, one must remember the timeline for other inspections. On-time inspection can help you avoid the citations and penalties from the fire safety authorities. The exception of the hospitals and medical facilities, all the other commercial buildings require to inspect every 4years. However, for the medication facility, the limit is 6years. Delaying the inspection might result in a penalty from authorities.

  3. Find Your Last Report Always keep the last report along with you during the process of inspection. The previous reports will show the number of dampers installed in the facility. Further, the reports detail the time when the dampers were last repaired. The report helps you to understand how much time the fire damper maintenance will take and what kind of updates will be there.

  4. Secure Life Safety Maps If you want a smooth and quick inspection, keep the life safety maps of the facility along with you. In the absence of a proper safety map, it may take longer to find the location of each damper. With a safety map in hand, the persons know well that where they need to go and how long the process of the inspection will take. Without safety maps, you may lose a considerable amount of time.

  5. Schedule Your Inspection Ensure that you schedule the fire damper inspection in advance. Missing the deadline may result in different issues. Further, setting the date and time in advance will ensure that nothing will come in between the inspection. You can take the help of a fire protection contractor to fasten the process. However, it will help you when you are too close to the deadline.

  6. Schedule Repairs Apart from the scheduled inspection, if you find that dampers are not working fine, it is better to schedule a repair for it at once. As per the NFPA 80, any faulty dampers need to be replaced as fast as possible. Often the contractors repair it during the schedule fire damper maintenance. It saves time and money.

  7. Prepare Code-Required Documentation Documentation is necessary once the whole process is complete. The documentation must include the dates and damper inspection process. The documentation is required to prove that the facility has had a timely inspection. If you don’t have it in your hand, it will be difficult for you to show that all the dampers passed the routine checks.
