  1. The Jesus Story Goes On . . . *Week 6*

  2. Jesus Disappears and Teaches • Luke 2:39-52 •  39When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. 41Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. 42When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom. 43After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."  49"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" 50But they did not understand what he was saying to them. •  51Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

  3. Jesus wasn’t to much different from you and me- • 12 years old (verse 42) • Got left by his parents (good job mary and joe) • Young man growing up, people being more drawn to him. • He was growing stronger. • Understand he was actually a person, Jesus lived his childhood like we live ours.

  4. Jesus Was Different From Us To!

  5. What he did we can do. . . • V46- • Listened to them • Asked them questions • V49- • Found him at church • V51- • Obedient to Parents

  6. Because of all of that- • V52- and Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with men and God.

  7. What that means • It is important what people think about you! • It is important what God thinks about you! • The reputation Jesus carried with God the father, and the people around him is what made it possible for him to have his earthly ministry. • Never to late to change- Luke 3:10-16, Acts 9, Disciples had tax collectors, fisherman, common people. Anyone can follow Christ no matter who they are or where they come from they Just have to Submit their lives to him. • Your Reputation May Precede You, BUT It Does Not Stop You

  8. Like It or Not • There was a baby born named Jesus • He lived his life just like we do: Laughed, cried, worked, bled, joked, competed, learned, listened. • His life ended for you, making a way to God for you. • Romans 10:9 “For if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved.
