  1. Internet of Everything Hackathon Glasgow University, 2014 Web:http://cisco.gutechsoc.com/ (#UoGCiscoHack) Facebook group: “Cisco Internet of Everything Hackathon”

  2. The Hackathon Tonight: 2 minute elevator pitches at 8:30pm 18th July at midnight: (virtual Hackathon) max 5 minute video + working code (we like working code!) - Submission on 18th July at midnight

  3. Housekeeping Virtual hackathon starts today at 4pm You can stay here until 9pm to form groups and brainstorm – pitches at 8:30pm (don’t worry!) This room open tomorrow 9-5pm, with food + drink! Cisco + SCK folks will introduce the IoE tech – I’ll demo an application

  4. Prizes! Lots of top shelf gear from Cisco to give away! We’re giving away 3x Smart Citizen Kits as well ($175 each) Best videos will be showcased in the Glasgow Science centre as part of Cisco's exhibit during the Commonwealth Games

  5. Tonight… Form teams of 3-4 people? Name the team Come up with some ideas Free food + drink 2 minute elevator pitch starting at 8:30pm … this doesn’t have to be your final submission!

  6. What can Smart Citizen Kits (SCKs) do? What data do they offer? How to get the data? What can it be used for?

  7. Spring is usually peak season in Florida SCK 501 ‘Tornado Alley’ Source: NOAA SPC 1950-1995

  8. SCKs can be used to measure hyper-local environmental conditions Could the data help in tornado/extreme weather forecasting? Let’s test it out using past data! We need to get SCK data But, how do we know about bad weather? …Google Search Trends

  10. Lunar cycle? Seasonal sunrise/sunset?

  11. ‘tornado’ search volume in Florida since 2004 Search query popularity reflects people’s interest in topics Studies on flu and event spatio-temporal spread Filtered to Florida-based searches for: tornado, weather, pollution, storm (1/1/2014 onwards) Google.com/trends

  12. Analysing Sensor Data Lots of possibilities… As temp increases, so does CO …but, not NO2

  13. Correlating Search Volume and Sensor Measures Always humid in Florida? Less wind, less noise Pollution settles without wind? Weather more stable towards summer …less need to look up forecast? Warming temperatures lead to storms …which can spawn tornados? … there is correlation between sensors and weather Possible predictive power?

  14. Interesting, but not scientific! Need more data – more SCKs! Some ideas… Smart campus Environmental sensing
