  3. Please Help!!! • We need your help. It is difficult for us to be constantly tying shoes. Please, please, please practice with your child at home!!!! This is not a skill we work on in the classroom but it is vital for your child to know how to tie his/her own shoes.

  4. Tutoring/Cub Club • Cub club is to work on previously taught skills and review • If your child does not reach the expected goals, they will be pulled for intervention during the school day by either the teacher or the interventionist. • Cub club/ intervention is from 8:10-8:40

  5. C Scope • District wide curriculum • This will insure vertical alignment throughout the school district and grades

  8. Important things to know… • We eat lunch at 11:55 • Snack is at 9:50 - please send a HEALTHY snack to eat in the morning and water with a sport top lid only. Please make sure your child knows how to open his/her snack. • Send jackets (when the weather gets cooler ) – we will be playing outside! • Please send any money in a sealed envelope with name and purpose

  9. In the morning… • If you arrive to school before 7:50am, students must sit quietly in the hallway (two teachers will be on duty with them). • A student is considered tardy after 8:00 After 3:10… • Pick students up at the office or at the front of the school.

  10. Library • Children can check out books each week. Please bring them back in the library bags by or before the next Tuesday! • Library Time: Tuesday at 11:30 Computer Lab • We will be going to the computer twice a week – Monday at 11:15-11:45 and Friday at 9:15-9:45.

  11. P.E. • Please wear tennis shoes to school, they may change after P.E. • Make sure that girls wear shorts under skirts. • If your child needs to sit out during P.E., please send a note and we will get it to Coach Broadhurst.

  12. Tuesday and Behavior Folders • Tuesday Folders go home every Tuesday; please return on Wednesday. • Behavior folder (yellow folder) There will be a stamp showing the color your child ended on that day. If they are on Red or yellow I will send a note with what happened. Please initial these each night and bring back every day.

  13. Homework • Homework will go home on Tuesdays in the Tuesday folder. When doing homework please have your child use a pencil. (and hold it correctly.) • Please read to your child or have them read to you each night. • Practice sight words (word we have learned so far I, A, See, Can)

  14. Sight words • We will be learning over 100 sight words this year. The more words your child can (almost) instantly recognize, the more time their brain spends on making meaning in a text, not just decoding the words. Please practice these with your child daily. You can find them in his/her yellow folder or on my website.

  15. Coming Up… • We will start guided reading groups in October • We are working very hard now to establish routines and work quietly so that guided reading will be possible • After they read a book with me, they will bring it home in a book bag! • Please read the book and send it and the bag back the next day!!!! (this is very important!!!!!)

  16. Why guided reading is important: • The goal is to support your child and help them learn to read with out frustrating them. • They will be able to move up levels when they are ready and they will move in and out of groups. • We work on fluency, phrasing, inflection and reading for meaning (comprehension).

  17. Conferences • We will have a conference with each parent starting the middle of October. • If you would like to schedule a conference before then, our conference time is from 10:15-11:15 or after school if needed.

  18. Report Card This year your child will have a numerical grade on their report card. You may access the grade book at any time to see what your child’s grade is. The report card grade will be an average for each subject but in the grade book you can see the specific grade for each assessment. www.canyonisd.net

  19. Temperature • Due to budget cuts our A/C will not go any lower than 72. Usually around 75 or hotter. It is hot in here! Please dress with that in mind (but girls are not allowed to wear spaghetti strap shirts  ) • Heater-it will not get any warmer than 68 degrees. Dress in layers!

  20. Birthdays • You are welcome to bring a treat for your child’s birthday (if you want to). We will have the treats at 2:40 You are welcome to come or just send the treat. Please no cake that needs to be cut. Cookies, cupcakes (or individual treats) are best!

  21. BYOT

  22. BYOT • This a new area for Kinder and we may have some kinks to work out as we grow! What we mean by NON gaming devices - The device can be an internet‐ready cell phone, tablet, laptop, or eReader. How ever if you don’t have a device (or do not want to send it with your kindergartener  it is completely ok.) We will try to have a Kinder BYOT once a six weeks starting the second six weeks. . . 

  23. Books!!! We can always use more books for our classroom library. If you are ever getting rid of good children’s books, please keep us in mind! We are always happy to get “new” books! 
