  5. Convex Mirrors • Object located anywhere in front of mirror • Creates a virtual mage • behind mirror • right side up • smaller

  6. Mirror Formula • f = focal length • do = object distance • di = image distance • 1/f = 1/do + 1/di • real image has positive image distance • virtual image has negative image distance

  7. Convex Lenses • Image depends on location of object • Real image occurs when object is “far” away • upside down • bigger or smaller

  8. Convex Lenses (cont.) • Object closer than focal length • Virtual image • right side up • larger • magnifying glass • corrective lens for far-sighted

  9. Concave Lens • Virtual Image • right side up • smaller • corrective lens for myopia
