  1. Matthew 5:17 • 17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven

  2. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.” But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven! 10 ∞

JESUS: • Did not come to ABOLISH the law • Came to ACCOMPLISH/ FULFILL their PURPOSE • Not even the smallest detail of the law will disappear • If you ignore the least commandment & teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the kingdom • Anyone who OBEYS & teaches them will be called great.

  4. RAMPED UP! • Anger = Murder (6th) • Idiot, cursing others • Look lustfully = Adultery (7th) • God looks at & judges the heart 

  5. NOW IMPOSSIBLE! WHY?

  6. God resists the proud But gives grace to the humble! JESUS IS NOW OUR ONLY HOPE OF SALVATION He is the way, the truth & life

  7. Matthew 28:19-20 The Great Commission: Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

  8. 10 Commandments • You shall have no other gods before me • You shall not make for yourself any graven images / idols • You shall not taken the name of the Lord your god in vain • Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy

  9. You shall honour your mother and father • You shall not murder • You shall not commit adultery • You shall not steal • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour • You shall not covet your neighbours house, his wife, his male or female servant, ox, donkey or anything else

  10. Ezekiel 36:25 • 25 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.27And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

  11. Ezekiel 36:28 • 28 ….You will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will cleanse you of your filthy behavior…. 32 But remember, says the Sovereign Lord, I am not doing this because you deserve it. O my people of Israel, you should be utterly ashamed of all you have done!

Jeremiah 31:31 • 33 “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 And they will not need to teach their neighbours, nor their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’ For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already,” says the Lord. “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”

  13. Law written on our hearts • Spirit of the law • Hearts of flesh, not stone • Now internal motivation vs. external motivation

  14. 10 Commandments • You shall have no other gods before me • You shall not make for yourself any graven images / idols • You shall not taken the name of the Lord your god in vain • Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy

  15. COVENANT • BERIT - three concepts - • A cutting (dying) • A binding (joining together) • Eating (pleasure)

  16. Jeremiah 31:31 • “Keep the Sabbath day holy.    Don’t pursue your own interests on that day,but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honour the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly. 14Then the Lord will be your delight. I will give you great honourand satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

  17. Jeremiah 31:31 •  a “sacred assembly” held on the Sabbath (Leviticus 23:3; cf.Numbers 28:9). • The keeping of the Sabbath was the “sign” of the covenant between Israel and the Lord (Exodus 31:13). • Col. 2:16 give Christians freedom to observe a special day or to observe every day as special. • God’s desire is that we worship and serve Him continually, every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday. 

  18. Hebrews 10:25 • And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people are in the habit are doing, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

  19. Acts 2:46 6 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved

  20. Greatest Commandment • Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, your mind and with all your strength.
