  5. Teaching Schedule The bell (1st trimester) schedule is as follows: 7:45 – 8:45 Period 1 8:45-9:45 Period 2 9:45-10:25 Period 3 (X- Time) 10:25-10:55 Lunch 10:55-11:45 Period 4 11:45 – 12:35 Period 5 12:35 – 1:25 Period 6 1:25 – 2:15 Period 7

Behavior Expectations • Students will be prompt, prepared, and complete all assignments and homework on time. • Students will raise hands before speaking & treat others and their property with respect. • Students will not interfere with others’ learning. • Students will follow directions the first time they are given. • Students will accept the consequences of chosen behaviors.

  9. Math • NEW McGraw-Hill Textbook (new textbook this year…we will all be learning it together ) • Common Core Standards • Technology (B.Y.O.T) • Kagan Strategies • Ticket out the door • Journal Writing • Spiral Notebooks

  10. Math • Daily Warm-up on whiteboards • From lesson • Spiral Notebook • Used to take notes in every day • Homework (DO NOT rip out of textbook) • Checked daily & turned in on Fridays • Composition books will be used as journals • YOU MUST BRING YOUR TEXTBOOK WITH YOU TO SCHOOL DAILY!

  11. Science • Physical Science Textbook from Holt • CA State Standards & Common Core • Matter, motion, forces, chemistry, periodic table… • Mini labs both in class & in science lab • Journal Writing

Classwork/Homework • Class work • Very important to complete - makes up a large percentage of students’ grades. • Homework • May consist of unfinished class work • Reinforces concepts taught in class • 10% of grade, but still very important, due to pacing! • Kids need to practice! • Math students NEED to show work! *NO late work accepted!*

  13. Math Homework • Spiral Review must be completed with every homework page in order to receive a 5 • *ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN in order to receive full credit • Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday…do not rip out pages. This homework cover sheet will be turned in on Friday’s

Absent & Redo’s • It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to obtain and turn in all absent work within 1 week of being absent • Students who do poorly on a test must redo the test within 1 week of receiving the test corrections for a maximum of 70%. All re-done tests MUST have a parent signature in order to receive credit

  17. Grading Policy • Tests=35% • Quiz=30% • Class work =25% • Homework =10% • Select papers may be practice or enrichment. These papers will not be graded assignments, but are used to reinforce the skills that students learned. • Graded work will be sent home with students every other week to review with parents.

  18. Student’s grades are available online through your ESPRI account. A letter was sent home with your student in the Parent Handbook. Sign and send back the permission slip. Once this is done, your account will be activated and you’ll be able to use ESPRI. Students coming from another school in the district should still have accounts. Online Grades

  19. Recognition Celebration • Both behavior & academics will be considered for students to be able to partake in the eighth grade celebration and all of the activities that surround it • For requirements, please refer to the Pride Planner • Parent involvement is still vital for student success 
