  4. Young Apprenticeship 2007 • Three programmes in place: • Construction (Croydon College) • Health & Social Care (John Ruskin College) • Hospitality (Croydon College • 85 students from 9 Croydon schools • 4 students from Beckmead

  5. Young Apprenticeships 2008 • Croydon Bids submitted for: • Construction • Health & Social Care • Hospitality • Motor Industry • Retail Management • Construction YA/Diploma Pilot • Potential for 122 student places • Notice of outcome – Jan 08

  6. What is the Engagement Programme? • Programme designed to engage KS4 students at risk of becoming NEET • Develop personal & social skills, attitudes & behaviours to reduce risk • Phase 2 of Pilot • Part of the Foundation Learning Tier • Will become a mandatory part of the curriculum

Key Stage 4 Engagement Programme • For disaffected and low attaining students in mainstream schools, special schools and PRUs • Access to the statutory Key Stage 4 curriculum • A personalised programme • A flexible programme • An increased development of personal and social skills • A strong work focus • An emphasis on functional skills • Additional high quality advice, support and guidance

How will it work? • Programme 1 • 2 year programme for years 10 & 11 in schools – 100 students • Jan 08 start • Programme 2 • 1 year programme for year 11 in PRUS – 60 students • Sept 07 start • 2 days per week on programme • (Functional & life skills, work related learning, preparation for work experience, trade visits, work experience) • 3 days per week core curriculum in school • Managed in current curriculum networks

Getting Connected • help young adults on the margins of education and employment to reconnect with learning and foster their personal development. • Enhance the self-esteem and emotional literacy of those young adults outside the formal education and training system. • young adults aged 16-25 but is also benefiting many aged 14-15.
