  2. Owensboro Grain was founded in1906 by Henry E. O’Bryan Henry toured the country on bicycle, purchasing corn for local distilleries Later he began shipping corn on wooden barges and developing the company as a small grain merchant.

  3. 1940’s 1950’s Henry’s son William recognized early that soybeans would play a significant role in the economy and directed the company into soybean processing in the later part of the 1940’s. During the 1950’s a batch solvent extraction plant was built. This began the Grain Company’s expansion into the Soy oil industry

  4. Growth and Expansion 1960’s 1980’s • 1967 the first continuous solvent extraction plant was built. • 1980 a corporate office was add to the facility. • 1981 a second continuous solvent extraction plant and a coal fired boiler were built. • 1987 began to produce high protein soybean meal with a complete remodel of the Prep Plant. • This also doubled the soybean processing capabilities. • 1989 the Lecithin Plant built • 1992 a second river pier was added. • This allowed complete separation of loading and unloading of barges

  5. Expansion in Soy Oil Industry 1995 the Edible Oils Plant was built on a 75 acre lot, 3 miles from the crushing plant. The facility produced Refined, Bleached and Deodorized Soybean Oil (a.k.a Salad Oil) and a wide assortment of hydrogenated products. 2007 in collaboration with the city of Owensboro a pipeline was ran. This allowed degummed soy oil to be pumped from the Lecithin Plant directly to a bulk storage location or the Edible Oils Plant eliminating the need to barge the product. 2010 the hydrogenation portion of the Edible Oils Plant was decommissioned as the food industry moved towards lower trans fats

  6. Biodiesel Expansion 2007 the Biodiesel Plant was added to the 75 acre refinery complex. The Biodiesel Plant produces over 53 million gallons per year

  7. With the continuous growth of the company in 2011 a new corporate office was built across from the Crushing Division.

  8. Bio-Based Products Expansion 2014 a Refined Glycerin Plant was added to the 75 acre Refinery complex The Refined Glycerin Plant can produce 36 million pounds of USP Excipient Glycerin a year

  9. Continuing Growth and Innovation • 2016 the CoGen Plant was built. • The CoGen Plant can produce 100% of the Crushing Divisions power needs • 2017 Edible Oils and Bio-Based Products became SQF certified • 2018 the coal fired boiler was replaced with a cleaner more efficient natural gas boiler. • During 2017-2018 in a joint venture with Accelergy the decommissioned Hydro portion of the Edible Oils Plant was remodeled and recommissioned. • The OG & A project will produce soy based candle wax and industrial products • 2018 grain storage was doubled with the construction of a fourth grain elevator operation across from the crushing plant.

  10. Company Facts • Late 70’s, early 80’s there were over 140 different companies crushing soybeans; today there are 13 • Last family-owned soybean crusher left • Soybeans: 40 million bushels per year (2.4 billion pounds) • Soybean Meal: 800,000 Tons per year • Soybean Oil: 75 million gallons per year • Lecithin: 20 million pounds per year • Biodiesel: 53 million gallons per year • Refined Glycerin: 36 million pounds per year • 165 employees
