Pollution: the contamination of air, land, or water by the discharge of harmful substances. “By reducing the use and production of hazardous substances and by operating more efficiently we protect human health, strengthen our economic well-being, and preserve the environment.” Pollution prevention occurs when raw resources, water, energy and other resources are utilized more efficiently, when less damaging substances are replaced for harmful ones, and when toxic substances are removed from the production process. What Occurs When Preventing More Facts Source decrease allows for the greatest and hastiest enhancements in environmental protection by escaping the generation of waste and destructive discharges. Source reduction makes the controlling system more efficient by dropping the need for end-of-pipe environmental control by government.
